Tell me yours?

For the first time ever I have made a decent Yorkshire Pudding. I have always for some reason struggled to make a proper one.

I'm not great at yorkies. Must try again.

This was my latest triumph -
all channa chaat, channa dhal, bhel salad:

Ages ago but I'm still proud - a meal involving hollandaise starter and baked Alaska pudding.

boomchikawowwow · 05/07/2020 18:55

For some reason I can't post a picture of my triumph.

Thanks, boom. It was very nice indeed! :)

CeibaTree · 05/07/2020 19:12

I misread your title at first to cooking turnips and I thought no thanks!😂
My most recent triumph was making a decent toad in the hole. I used Mary Berry's Yorkshire recipe and kind of adapted it.

TooMinty · 05/07/2020 19:16

I made lasagne totally from scratch the other day, was pretty tasty although slightly glittery as it turned out the kids had used my good rolling pin for sparky play doh 😣

@CeibaTree - what adaptations did you make? I have a request to make Toad in the Hole this week...

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 05/07/2020 19:18

Glittery lasagne. Grin

I've honed my veggie lasagne and veggie chilli to the point of triumph over the years, but neither of them are very pretty.

mbb1 · 05/07/2020 19:25

Why would lasagna require a rolling pin?

NoNeedToArgue · 05/07/2020 19:28

Because she made it from scratch and I am guessing doesn't have a pasta machine...?

TooMinty · 05/07/2020 19:38

I actually do have a pasta machine but it kept sticking so I gave up and rolled it out by hand instead.

Remus, just add some glitter to make your lasagne "pretty"...

Thanks! Took hours to make though, so one for a day when you have nothing else planned. I'd love to master Yorkshire puddings, I think I have made one good batch and countless ok but deflated ones...

I’ve had some triumphs with my cooking. I’ve been really pleased that I managed to make a decent chilli. We bought a bread maker and that’s been a godsend. Beer battered haddock (see picture). Scones, rolls and carrot cake. I made a fish gratin the other day. I didn’t take a picture because we ate it all up fast 😳

Wow that fish looks lush!

I still can't add a pic of my Yorkshire's for some reason!

I've nailed crackling on pork belly in lockdown. It's so delicious and truly crackly.

I used the quantities she saId to use for yorkshires, then oven cooked the sausages in oil at gas mark 7 for 15 mins, then poured the batter into the hot dish and cooked for a further 35 mins, it tasted really good and had the right texture :)

Thanks Cebia! Will give it a go.

GreenGordon · 05/07/2020 21:18

Not quite the same thing, but i had never managed to get my son to take an interest in food or cooking much to my disappointment. But he came home for lockdown and we bonded over preparing a meal each evening. He went back this weekend, and has just posted a photo of the delicious meal he had made for his partner and his parents. I’m so proud!

oldbagface · 06/07/2020 19:47

My DH makes the best beef and mushroom curry. Very spicy and very tasty

MsRinky · 10/07/2020 21:36

I have learned to make brilliant bagels in lockdown, which has enhanced my life considerably.
