Plastic bowls - please help me find similar ?

Please Could anyone help me find similar?

I've had these for years - my lovely mother-in-law bought them for me before she passed away and I've searched many times to try and find similar replacements but I just can't.

We use them every single day. They are so convenient I put leftovers in them, the boys use them when they're snacking - having a doughnut or a small snack.

I think they are melamine?
9 x 6 inches.
Made by Royle?

Any suggestions please?

I put a lucozade bottle in the picture, just for size reference!

Trying to find exactly the same thing will be very tricky.
How about something like this?
Or do they need to have room for a glass?

Have you tried a garden centre? Our garden centre has a whole dining section and does plates a bit like this.

Tesco had some melamine tableware last time I was there. As it is the time of year that people will be having barbecues melamine will be easier to find.

Just realised post those links don't work for whatever reason. But wayfair have loads if you type in side plate.

homemadecommunistrussia · 18/06/2020 07:54

The links work for me. I never think of wayfair.

Oblomov20 · 18/06/2020 08:05

Thank you all!
I'm not actually sure they are melamine. They are actually quite plasticy!

They are also quite deep, not flat, so you can put a couple of packets of crisps in, or peanuts and they don't slide out.

Plus, ours go in the microwave all the time. I'm sure you are not supposed to! But we heat up left over shepherds pie. Ds2 uses them every single day, to heat up a sausage roll for 20 seconds, for example, or similar.

So, Russia thank you your link may fit.

But the other wayfair links, thank you but they aren't deep enough.

Like I say they are actually really plasticky and cheap but you wouldn't believe how convenient they are.

I think she bought them at the local market? or maybe one of those bits and bobs shops, pre Poundland type ship - that used to sell everything from Sellotape to a pair of stepladders!!

I recognise the pattern on the top one. It definitely looks like melamine to me, and you shouldn't put melamine in the microwave.

homemadecommunistrussia · 18/06/2020 10:25

It's always really annoying that you're not supposed to use melamine in the microwave. So often I have found really nice bowls that look ideal for porridge or noodles, but then they aren't microwave safe.
I wonder what actually happens if you do use them?
I have a couple of plastic bowls that are safe for the microwave, but they always get scratched inside, which is not ideal.
We have ceramic tiles in the kitchen, so even though the dc are mostly grown up I would like more dishes that they can't smash.

Ginfordinner · 18/06/2020 10:35

I think it is to do with chemicals leaching into the food.

homemadecommunistrussia · 18/06/2020 16:34

Googling very unscientifically appears to suggest it is because it dries out the melamine, weakening it over time.
