10 month old wants independence!

DS is 10.5 months and not keen on being spoon fed to the level where he sees the spoon being loaded and slumps down in his high chair so any feeding is impossible!

He doesn't do anything useful with a spoon, so I am trying just putting food on the tray - my lovingly prepared purees/less pureed slops seem to be being wasted somewhat.

Any suggestions for what to try giving him?

hi! my dd was the same at that age. i found a great book on amazon called "finger foods" by jennie someone (really annoyed cant remember her name) that i found great. ive leant it to loads of people. toast fingers with anything you like on it, well cooked carrott fingers (all soggy!), peas are great fun cos they shoot around all over the tray, etc. hope you find the book

Have seen it in my library I think so will have another look.

Will be nice when food doesn't end up everywhere but think that might take a few years

Have now reserved it at the library - think my cooking style will have to change a bit now.

Thank you Nailpolish and good luck with the rest of your pregnancy (however long or short it may be!)

oh i hope you like it now! have been trying to think of all other things i made - pasta is good too! messy yes but you can have your dinner at the same time as well if they have finger food. they can even have the same thing! just ignore the mess xxx

have you tried giving him a spoon as well
put the puree you made inside pasta tubes

i had this problem for awhile and nearly teared my hair out! If did pass. Sometimes abit of finger food gets them going and then you can start slipping in the spoon! Sly mummy

agree with papillon on this - I tend to have the spoon ready to pounce as I hand him some finger food. As he concentrates on holding the bread / cheese / whatever he forgets his spoon protest. You could always spread the purees on some toast or suchlike for him to eat.
