Packed lunches (i dont care how middle-class or boring it is)

Ok, so thanks to the packed lunch certificate thingy thread I kicked my daughters lunch into touch today.
There are no longer any crisps in it, and instead of a sandwich she has some breadsticks, cheese spread, pickled onions, cucumber chunks, a slice of malt loaf and a packet of raisins.
Thing is I know I'm gonna run out of idea's by tomorrow so any advice would be gratefully received!!
Also I know it shouldn't be cheese spread but got all confused in sainsbury as to what cheese it should be, anyone help??

i do

crackers - he loves water biscuits/rice cakes/oat cakes
cheese - only proper but sometimes buy mini gouda/edam/cheddar
cucumber/strawberries/blueberries/cherry toms/kiwi
hot cross bun or fruit loaf is easy or sometimes smoothie/ellas kitchen smooth fruit thing
mini sausages go down well
yoghurt - i only buy proper ones - he wont eat over sweet frubes and infact the yeo valley yoghurt in a tube does not go down well and smells vile so we put a proper pot in and spooon

this is enough tbh ad infact we have strted to really veer away from butty as its not even nice by lunchtime

NotAnOtter · 24/09/2007 10:27

i cant believe some folk send juice of any sort

water is all i would send

cocolepew · 24/09/2007 10:27

Oh and a packet of Monster munch. I pay for her to have fruit at breaktime.

(Coco runs away after admitting to MM)

ChasingSquirrels · 24/09/2007 10:29

sandwiches not being nice - make it with frozen bread, it is defrosted by lunchtime but still fresh.

Wisteria · 24/09/2007 10:30

PMSL at coco running away from MM!!

All I know is my dcs have survived - they are healthy, slim, fit children with good skin, hair, nails and no fillings.

Beware of not allowing your children to eat crap once in a while, they just want it all the more.

Lorayn · 24/09/2007 10:31

My dd is not allowed anything other than water at school which is a shame cos she used to love fresh fruit juice at her old school.

It's bloody ridiculous Lorayn - nanny stateism gone mad.

Right I'm going now - really must stop ranting and get on with some work!

Lorayn · 24/09/2007 10:39

It's not even for health issues wisteria, it's because they had some ants. Surely it only takes two minutes to check the children's drinks are standing up?
They all have to put them in a tray next to the class, it isn't as if they are all over the place in lunchboxes

Wisteria · 24/09/2007 11:09

Oh FFS.

Lorayn · 24/09/2007 11:12

and to make it worse, they are allowed flavoured water if they want, surely that is just as sticky??

Fireflyfairy2, you're being diddled, I only pay £1.25. Smug.

Eldest DD has sausage rolls today . Does it count as bad if they're M&S? She can't eat bread, too much chewing .

fireflyfairy2 · 24/09/2007 11:44

Where are you coco? Are you in NI?

Lorayn · 24/09/2007 11:47

DD's fruit is free [smug emoticon]
Although she doesnt get milk.

OP posts:
cocolepew · 24/09/2007 11:49

Yes, it's me. They probably get the leftovers from Saturdays market! Oh, they get milk too.

fireflyfairy2 · 24/09/2007 11:51

It was only £2 last year but they've put their prices up this year!

How much are school dinners? Ours is £1.20 per day. But dd just has dinner one day a week

Better run & get in the shower... due at uni in under an hour!

cocolepew · 24/09/2007 11:51

Lorayn!

cocolepew · 24/09/2007 11:54

£1.20! Lucky you. Ours are £2. DD1 doesn't have school dinner the dinner ladys' are 'too shouty'(!) DD2 picks and chooses.

Lorayn · 24/09/2007 11:58

I thought all primary school children got free fruit

Maybe it's different over here.

i dread to think what the luchbox police will say about dt1's lunch when he goes from nursery to school in January, the battle of the lunchbox starts the night before-

"mummy, i don't like nanas anymore"

"ok, not a problem we'll find something else you like in the morning"

next morning 8am-

"right what do you want for lunch dt1"
"some marmite toast will be fine mummy"
"but darling the toast will be cold by lunchtime, shall we make marmite sarnies?"
"ok mummy, but don't put anything else in my yunchbox, i don't like anything but marmite"

dt1 toddles off to nursery with a lunchbox containing a drink, marmite sandwiches, a fromage frais and a packet of crisps, same as EVERY day!! the nursery once commented on his 'unimaginative' lunch every day until the next day when i sent him in with something different and he went into toddler meltdown- refused to eat anything but marmite sandwiches!!! they haven't commented since

We bought 2 bento box containers from a japanese place - 4 compartments, holding maybe a 2 tablespoons worth of stuff in each. DS loves it because its like play food and also he doesn't like food to touch very much (wierdo).

DS gets things like gherkins/pickled cucumbers or toms with balsamic vinegar; some fruit, either carrot sticks or cheese and celery slices and then a treat thing, such as flapjacks we made on Saturday. Last week it was tortilla/Arabic bread, spread with Philly and drizzled with honey, rolled up and then cut into slices. Popcorn (no salt no sugar cos I'm a bitch that way) goes down well too as do oatcakes at the minute.

BUT I'm somewhere you can't get cheese strings/edible crisps/UK food easily so he's more malleable than most.

cocolepew · 24/09/2007 16:10

Don't need to call the lunchbox police on me. DD didn't eat her monster munch.

They were out of date .

Mine consist of meat sandwiches, fruit juice, portion of fruit in a tub, yogurt or cheesy string/dippy thing and a cereal bar.

I think that covers all the important food groups well enough.
