I am tempted to make this now as my mouth is watering

Chirpygirl · 23/09/2007 13:51

Ooh no, think of the lunchbox police! You can't allow them to have chocolate (gasp) in their lunchboxes....

seriously, sling it this way, I will dispose of it in a safe manner!

NAB3 · 23/09/2007 13:55

I know! I sent a piece of chocolate brownie in as to me it is more than a cake but won't be doing that again. ANything choccy will be had for tea!

Would love any savoury recipes please. TIA.

I have my recipe book here as am copying that cake recipe so here are some...
cheese straws
Mix 50g self raising, pinch cayenne, 25g butter, 100g cheese (either all cheddar or change for 20g parmesan if you have it) until doughlike
Roll out and cut into shapes
Bake 8-10 mins GM6/200C

Flapjacks
Mix 1 egg, 25g butter, 75g cheese and 70g oats in bowl
Shape into balls, flatten slightly and bake for 10 mins GM5 until golden

Scotch pancakes
sift 120g self raising and small pinch salt into bowl, add 30g caster sugar.
Beat 1 egg into 1/4 pt milk and mix with dry ingredients.
Cook spoonfuls on hot griddle/frying pan until it bubblkes and then flip over and cook reverse.

I add cinnamon and raisins for a change, I also added mashed banana once but they don't keep more than a day then.

All of the above keep in airtight boxes for about 3 or 4 days..

Thank you.

I should explain that we are all addicted to cheese in this house!

NAB3 · 23/09/2007 14:49

Me too. I could live on cheese. Just been to Asda and now have 5 different cheeses. Any particular one that works better? Not making them just yet as need to start on the roast and my mixer is in the dishwasher.

OP posts:
NAB3 · 23/09/2007 15:52

They are in. You don't get many do you? Or have I done something wrong???

OP posts:
Chirpygirl · 23/09/2007 17:38

Sorry! DD woke up and has been all clingy as she was ill, and then I decided to move all the furntire around (nesting, moi?)

Red Leicester, cheddar and parmesan is my fave mix as it makes it stripy...but it's prob too late to tell you that now

You don't get many, should have mentioned, I only have me, DD and DH so we don't need a lot to feed us (as long as I hide them from DH...) did you like them then?

Furball · 23/09/2007 17:43

chocolate brownie cake recipe please NAB

I've just made my own cream slices, yummy and very easy.

NAB3 · 23/09/2007 17:56

I think I got 6. Haven't tasted them. TBH The smell put me off. Not sure why.

OP posts:
Chirpygirl · 23/09/2007 18:02

6? I normally get at least 12 in my cupcake tin thing!
Mind you, I make littler ones for DD to get her hands round....

NAB3 · 23/09/2007 18:03

CHOCOLATE BROWNIE CAKE

This is not for those trying to lose weight.
I didn't put the full amount of sugar in, I just couldn't.
Haven't tasted it yet and I cooked it for longer than it said.

Serves 6-8.
INGREDIENTS
100g/4oz butter
175g/6oz caster sugar.
75g/2.5oz brown or muscovado sugar.
125g bar chocolate (plain or milk)
1 tbsp golden syrup.
2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla extract or essence
100g/4oz plain flour
1/2 tsp baking powder
2 tbsp cocoa powder.

METHOD

  1. Heat the oven to 180C/fan 160C/gas4.
  2. Place the butter, caster sugar, brown sugar, chocolate and golden syrup in a pan and melt gently over a low heat until it is smooth and lump-free.
  3. Remove the pan from the heat.
  4. Break the eggs into a bowl and whisk with a fork until light and frothy.
  5. Add the eggs, vanilla extract/essence, flour, baking powder and cocoa powder to the choc mixture and mix thoroughly.
  6. Put the mixture into the greased and lined cake tin and place on the middle shelf of the oven. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes.
  7. Remove and allow to cool for 20 to 30 minutes before cutting into wedges and serving.
  8. Serve with cream or ice cream and plenty of fresh fruit.
