I would think so yes.

GreatAuntieWurly · 21/09/2007 09:39

how old are the kids?? mine would probably still be hungry after.

EmsMum · 21/09/2007 09:40

Wouldn't have thought so... not much protein in there. Unless they'd had a steak for lunch! Well seriously it does depend on what they've eaten earlier in the day.

Add a hunk of cheese and/or yogurt maybe.

pyjamagirl · 21/09/2007 09:42

They are 9,8,6,4 and 22 months

2 of them asked if they could have soup for tonights meal

Depends what they have had for lunch I guess.

I think DD would probably still be hungry after soup. What else is in the carrot soup - any pulses or anything?

TinyGang · 21/09/2007 09:43

Well depends what else they've had.

Could you add a cheese and ham toastie perhaps if it's something 'snacky/quick' you want to do?

I would do just the soup for lunch, but not enough for dinner.

JodieG1 · 21/09/2007 09:44

Mine have had vegetable soup with bread before for dinner and been fine, this was homemade with lots of veg and pasta in it though.

GreatAuntieWurly · 21/09/2007 09:48

chunky (almost stew type) soup would be fine.

Sounds good. I make a very chunky bacon, veg and bean soup (liquidised for the kids so they can't object to any of the ingredients) and it is a very substantial meal for the children with hunks of bread.

slayerette · 21/09/2007 10:10

Rather than carrot soup, make what my ds calls 'red soup' - onions, red pepper, carrots, potato, red lentils and tinned tomatoes all cooked together and whizzed in the blender. Really easy to make and really filling and nutritious. I use two tins of tomatoes and 8 oz of lentils with a couple of each sort of veg - serves loads.

slayerette · 21/09/2007 10:11

Oh, add two tins of water too.

shrooms · 24/09/2007 22:52

You know, this may be a bit late, but I thought I'd just put in my 2 cents - one lower protein meal won't do any damge whatsoever, and as well as this, if you used ww bread/pasta, that is high in protein too. As vegans, we often eat this type of meal and none of us have a protein deficiency!
If I did want to boost the calorie/protein intake in such a meal, then I puree butter beans, lentils or chickpeas/whatever pulse you like in to the soup to make it very substantial. Or you serve the bread with hummus. Enjoy...
