Chicken pie, mince pie, steak pie....

Basically, anything meat that is in a thick-ish sauce.

I do a thing DH calls puff pastry pizza, of course it's so much more sophisticated than that..and v quick and easy. Preheat oven. Unroll puff pastry (if ready rolled. If not ready rolled you need to roll it ) Score a line about half an inch in, all the way round, picture frame stylee. Cook in oven until nearly done. Scatter things on the top, eg chopped sundried tomatoes, roast peppers, courgettes, red onion etc. (artichokes are lovely) whatever you want, sprinkle with crumbled feta and some herbs, drizzle with some olive oil, back into oven for a bit. Yummy warm or cold.

oh Jules that sounds good .. do you need a tomato sauce like with pizza or do you just scatter assorted stuff on the top and the cheese?

I have ingredients for roast veg lurking in fridge (the whole aubergine, fennel, courgette, peppers thing) .. and feta cheese .. I think I just might have to try that

I don't put tomato sauce on, just the veggies, herbs, feta and olive oil. Oh and usually some olives. You could put anchovies or salami or something on too if you're not a vegetarian. (But I am!)

jamie oliver's newcaste brown ale pie

or something like that

pinkspottywellies · 20/09/2007 18:56

My childhood favourite was cheese and potato pie. Put a layer of tinned tomatoes in a deep dish then layer up cheese and mashed potato and maybe onion. Top with puff pastry lid. MMmmmmmmmmm

roll puff pastry out on sugar, cut into shape and place on a baking tray. when cooked and cooled, spread one rectangle with raspberry jam and the other with double cream. sandwich together and sprinkle with icing sugar. Homemade cream slices!

Roll our puff pastry on demerara sugar put mincemeat down the middle and roll pasty round to make one sausage, sprinkle on almonds and back 190 for 10-15 mins - reciepe courtesy of another poster from a few days ago

JulesJules · 20/09/2007 19:26

Forgot to say - prick all over with fork before putting in the oven the first time, so it doesn't puff up so much. I like the sound of the cream slice, mmmm.

Twiglett · 21/09/2007 11:21

Jules .. I really don't do pastry so how long do you put it in oven first time round? roughly? (what are signs its nearly done) .. am assuming on 180

Bacon and egg pie.

JulesJules · 22/09/2007 18:01

Twiglett - so sorry, I've been at work for 2 days, and hadn't seen your last post!!

OK, score round the border and prick all over with fork, bake for about 10-12 mins in hot oven, about 200-220. After you have put the topping on, it just needs long enough to heat everything through and start to melt the cheese, mmmm.
