From the BBC Good Food magazine.

Sweetie cookies (makes 20)
170g well softened butter
140g light muscovado sugar (I use ordinary granulated)
1 tbsp milk
1 egg yolk
220g self -raising flour
100g chocolate chips
85g dried fruits (optional)
100g chopped nuts (optional)
Sweets (smarties, hundred & thousands) probably optional in your case.

Heat oven to 190C/fan 170C. Line 2baking sheets with non-stick baking parchment. Beat the butter and sugar together, beat in milk and egg yolk. Gradually work in the flour to make a fairly stiff dough. Tip in any chocolate, dried fruit or nuts. Mix in well. Roll tablespoonfuls into balls, place on baking trays (leaving a 7cm gap to allow for spreading) and flatten gently to form a disc about 1cm thick. Decorate with sweets. Place both trays in oven and bake for 7-10 mins. Take trays out when biscuits are golden. Cool on tray until firm, then transfer to wire rack.

good - though, knowing him, he'll just stick massive chunks of chocolate in it without grinding them up (yum).

i wonder what they will turn out like

yes you have to at least try them, my sister made a queen of puddings in 1973, that has gone down legendary as the dish that ended up in the loo. she has never been able to cook since
