I wouldn't have thought so, no. Polenta is cornmeal and grains are always high-carb, I think, so that would include barley too. Why?

Bessie123 · 19/09/2007 16:40

I have no idea. So go with YES.

3sEnough · 19/09/2007 16:41

No - they are carb - totally!

MrsBadger · 19/09/2007 16:41

both are high carb
but barley is low GI, I believe

lulumama · 19/09/2007 16:42

erm, thanks bessie

DH back on his low carb thing, and i have already had to make different dinner for DS as he will not eat the soup or tortilla i made, or the chilli and polenta

he is usually the least fussy eater but has boaked at all these choices, so need to know if DH can eat them or shall i tell him to collect a chicken on the way home

is low GI ok for a low carb diet

Low GI can probably help as you tend to limit the carbs a great deal - how about chilli and half normal portion of polenta but add big green salad. Alternatively serve chilli with half brown rice, half lentils - nicer than it sounds!

lulumama · 19/09/2007 16:47

DH cannot , cannot eat rice > but yes, i could fob him off with the chilli and polenta then

Snigger - I have one of those dh's too! How about straight lentils then - seriously low carb and tonnes of protein - I'd sleep in the spare room if I were you though!!!

Bessie123 · 19/09/2007 17:08

You could make refried beans or quinoa instead of polenta. Or you could tell DH to stop being so picky and go down the gym instead of dieting

lulumama · 19/09/2007 17:10

haev no quinoa, nor beans

he does go to the gym too

i am so put upon

Well, he must look good, at least. I can't get my dp to stop eating takeaways and drinking. He doesn't exercise either; he is turning into a complete couch potato.

lulumama · 19/09/2007 17:28

he's not bad at all !!

but doesn;t make up for making 4 different dinners!
