Is there anything really worthwhile for a non-vegan to do with Aquafaba?

I've just made 2 cans worth of hummus and drained the liquid from the chickpeas into a bowl instead of as usual straight down the sink, having heard vague rumours it can be used in various recipes.

But having looked for some I've not found anything that appeals. I'm not a vegan and I've got plenty of eggs ... so I don't want to risk wasting time and ingredients on anything that's a bit meh. I don't want to make anything sweet for sure.

Is there anything really worth trying or should I chuck it after all?

Thanks!

Bin it. It is just sticky water.
And I say this as a vegan Grin

There's a cooking channel on YouTube called 'binging with babish', and just as lockdown started he did a whole episode about cooking with chickpeas. He made meringues and something else I can't quite remember Blush but it looked amazing and before that I hadn't heard of aquafaba. Take a look Smile x

So (bearing in mind I said 'I don't want to make anything sweet for sure. ' ) if I disguise it with sugar I might make something quite nice or ... I'm guessing MosesShute's tears weren't of joy...not?Grin

I think perhaps I'll pass this time, but we've loads more chickpeas so I'm still open to suggestions. The sanest, most obvious idea I read elsewhere was to use some in the hummus, which had oddly never occurred to me.

Why ruin hummus? The more things you take out of your chickpeas, the creamier the hummus. If you empty a can and then put it in a small pot with water and bicarb soda to gently boil for 20 min, you will see the cellulose starting to float. Remove it with a fork, drain chickpeas and then put them in the processor. Try and thank me later.

I lived with a vegan a couple of years back and made a few aquafaba recipes for her. A couple were passable (the mayo was the best) but nothing was as good as with eggs.

So unless you are vegan or allergic to eggs, I’d bin it.

I had a good hummus recipe where you add the liquid from the can too.
