Peeling eggs?

What's the best way to peel a hard boiled egg? Every time I do it it falls to pieces and looks dodgy Confused

Are you making sure the egg has fully cooled before peeling?

Hoppinggreen · 04/05/2020 17:55

Put it in a tall thin glass
Put your hand over the end and shake a couple of times

HappyHammy · 04/05/2020 17:56

What do you meanby dodgy. Run them under the cold tap to let them cool first. Do you eat them hot or cold.

Einszwei · 04/05/2020 17:57

Put some bicarb in the water when you boil - it will make the eggs easier to peel.

Crack the shell, then use the side of your thumb to peel the shell. It gently peels back the membrane underneath the shell and lifts all the shell away smoothly.

IHaveBrilloHair · 04/05/2020 17:57

I roll them on the bench until cracked all over then peel.

NotInTheMorning · 04/05/2020 17:57

My technique is to dunk them in cold water for a few minutes first (to cool them down and stop them getting that grey tinge), then bash them with a spoon to break the shell and then I just peel them with my fingers.

Mapril · 04/05/2020 17:58

Cool the egg. Tap and roll it before peeling by using the membrane.

GoldenFlaps · 04/05/2020 17:59

Older eggs will peel more easily.

TheQueef · 04/05/2020 17:59

Buy an instant pot and waste time, as I do, so that they are perfectly peelable.

Trytowin20 · 04/05/2020 18:00

A clean jar fill with bit of water, the egg and shake shake shake. Game changer. Google as I can't remember how much water off hand but I think it's an inch or so in the bottom. Comes off in seconds!

BuffaloCauliflower · 04/05/2020 18:01

Vinegar and salt in the boiling water. Let cool. Roll shell on hard surface to break all over and then peel.

soundsystem · 04/05/2020 18:02

It's easier to do in cold water. Cool it down, tap/roll, then submerge in cold water and it will peel easily.

I had a part-time job after school that requires me to peel lots and lots of hard-boiled eggs, so I feel I can speak with some authority on this Grin

PigletJohn · 04/05/2020 18:18

if it is very fresh, it will be difficult to peel. Once it has aged enough to have some air in the shell, it will contract if you run cold water over it.

I usually put them in a sink of cold water and peel them in it. This washes off any bits of shell.

PigletJohn · 04/05/2020 18:18

oh, too slow.

TheClitterati · 04/05/2020 19:54

Give the egg a good spin before you crack it - usually works.

violetbunny · 05/05/2020 03:28

Yep as someone else said, fresh eggs are hardest to peel. It's best to boil eggs when they're nearing their use by date. I find plunging them into cold water with ice in it seems to work best for peeling.

DramaAlpaca · 05/05/2020 03:36

Yep, fresh eggs are hard to peel. I only hard boil slightly old eggs, as a pp says. Always dunk them into cold water as soon as they are cooked so you don't get that grey tinge round the yolk.

JessicaDay · 05/05/2020 13:40

Cool in cold water. Tap egg against a surface to create a mosaic band round the middle ensuring you puncture the membrane. Peel off the band In the middle including membrane then slide off the two halves.
