mix up a teaspoon of cornflour with a teaspoon of water and stir it in...that should work I think and doesn't really taste of anything.

Oh and stop eating custard, it's gross. Have cream or ice-cream instead

mix a small amount of powder with a little bit of milk and mix it in quick. or start again.

i just put in a bit more powder, didnt seem to do much so boiled it again in the microwave and it is saved!

The key to thickening it is to add in more powder (as a paste or you will get lumps) stir well and re-heat. You seem to have worked that out for yourself, but in case anyone else reads this and wants to know how it is done, you have to reheat it.

i love bird's custard. and trifle

The easy and sure way to thicken custard for trifle, tinned custard or homemade using powder, is, if it's tinned whisk in an egg yolk put it in a pan and bring to the boil whisking all the time.Keep whisking and boiling for 1 minute. You can use this method for home made too or simply add more powder mixed first with a little milk. Adding custard powder or corn flour to tinned custard doesn't work well, it causes it to go lumpy and uneven and can impair the taste or taste powdery.

Who the heck are you, to tell someone to do, or not do something. The fact that you think that custard is gross is only your opinion, and the fact that you have seen to voice this confirms that your opinions are totally irrelevant

Custard can be foolproof but only if you actually stick to the instructions and use 35g powder to pint of milk, don't use the spoon measurements, they are wrong! To me that is the perfect consistency to set in trifle etc, if you want thinner for pouring and using hot I go with 30g powder to pint.
