Using frozen veg for stirfry?

I love making stirfrys but in the past I've usually bought a kit from the supermarket. The main issue with those is you have to use them within a couple of days of purchase.

It would be much better if I can do one from scratch so I'm wondering how to maximise my use of ingredients.

e.g. Things like salad peppers, mushrooms, carrots are easy because I can simply buy what I need, or in the case of peppers, I use them in many other dishes anyway - the problem is stuff like cabbage, or other "leafs" since I'll never use anywhere near a whole cabbage!

So then I thought about frozen veg, Has anyone tried using frozen veg in a stir-fry and how do they come out?

In particular frozen broccoli, cabbage, leeks.

Any other tips welcome.

I buy tesco frozen stir fry veg-it’s not quite as good as fresh but perfectly edible and much easier. Peppers go mushy if frozen.

I use hard white cabbage, keeps for a long time & is good stir-fried & for cole slaw

I’ve also bought a packet of frozen stir fry veg and it was ok. I’ll be getting it again as it’s a quick meal

Frozen stir-fry is a standby staple for me

Frozen stir-fry veg
Maybe add some extra frozen broccoli/mushrooms/edamame beans etc if I have them
Frozen Quorn/other meatless protein pieces

Chuck it all in hot wok & cook straight from frozen
Do some noodles in a separate pan (keep dried ones in the store cupboard), whip up some kind of sauce/flavouring to chuck in, bung it all together once the veg is cooked. Maybe add a fried egg on top if feeling decadent Grin

Like you I usually buy the ready chopped veg but have just sad to adapt for lock down.
My new stir fry’s consist of
Carrots and courgette ribbons made with veg peeler.
Mushrooms
Onion
Peppers
Broccoli
Tinned water chestnuts, bamboo shoots, sweetcorn and pineapple.
Surprisingly tasty actually!

Forgot to say leeks, keep well over a week in the fridge and shredded make a fab addition to stir fry.

Frozen peppers don’t go mushy.....you just have to cook them frozen, give them even a minute to defrost and they are mushy. They need a very hot wok or simmering chilli to be good

Frozen garlic & onion is fab

Frozen peas great

Frozen broccoli 🤮 but luckily fresh broccoli lasts well in the fridge as do spring onions

Frozen or tinned sweetcorn is good

Tinned water chestnuts, bamboo shoots are great

OK some great advice thanks

I hadn't realised cabbage kept so long - up to 2 months apparently - so I should easily get through that.

Dissenting opinions on broccoli - I have some frozen though I use for curries so I'll throw a couple of florets in and see how they come out.
Also got plenty of frozen garden peas/sweetcorn

Anyone try frozen mushrooms??

Frozen mushrooms are different. But ok in well cooked things. I’ve used them for risotto, or garlicky fried mushroom side dish

We used frozen Broccoli in our stir fry tonight. It was fine x

Maybe it depends on the product. I freeze home grown broccoli fine.
