I'm trying to buy food shop that will last at least a month. Kids like chicken salads.... These frozen sometimes flavoured chicken pieces you can buy? Are they nice? Can they just be defrosted and put into a sandwich or a salad?

They're probably full of additives.
Why not just buy raw chicken - fresh or frozen - & defrost & cook as needed?

I have a bag of these in my freezer, Ive used them for sandwiches and salads and they're fine once defrosted. I just give them a dab with with kitchen roll before using.

@handbagsatdawn33 just to have an alternative to cold meat like ham that can be an easy no cook lunch. We buy lots of raw chicken to cook ourselves but its usually for our evening meal.
I don't think they have lots of additives from what I can see other than herbs spices and salt.... We would add these anyway so I'm not too worried.

@IndieTara yeah I wondered about using kitchen roll to dab it because it might be a bit wet once defrosted

I use them for DPs lunches throw them in with cooked rice etc the night before and they've defrosted by the time he's going to eat.

They make the best fake chinese curry too, probably the added water but it's so good.

I use them for quick fajitas for evenings when I’m working. They’re fine, I quite like them.

I use cooked frozen chicken pieces when I am cooking for our firsts rugby team on a Saturday (seems like a distant memory at the moment). I make curry or pie filling - I use ready rolled puff pastry for this- and the only downsides are the fact that it's not British and you can't refreeze it.

Where do you get these from? They sound ideal for my husband who does shiftwork

sproutsandparsnips · 11/04/2020 23:22

I get mine from farmfoods.

Iceland sell a few different flavours. My Dd has them in a wrap for lunch

gamerchick · 11/04/2020 23:27

They're fine. Handy to have in for quickness.

Lovebb · 11/04/2020 23:29

They’re not full of additives, they’re fine

I've taken some Aldi frozen cooked chicken with me when I've been self catering, just so I knew it would be ok on the journey in a hot car. It was fine in a stir fry.

motortroll · 11/04/2020 23:34

I use them for things like pasta bake and just give them in frozen so yes from me!

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 11/04/2020 23:40

Yeah I've used in the past, quite a bit of added water so can be a bit wet, but like PP say, dab with a kitchen towel if it bothers you

Hazelnutlatteplease · 13/04/2020 15:30

Absolutely fine.

But worked out its significantly cheaper to grab a whole chicken, sling it in the slow cooker (4-5 hours low, 3 hours on high), chop it up and freeze it in 100g portions. Usually 800g of chicken for less than £4, compared to 350g for about £3.50, so a good half the price.
