Please recommend me a good Mediterranean diet cook book

My husband has been advised to follow this diet and I will be cooking for the whole family, three adult and two teenagers.

I do have 70+ cook books so if anyone can recommend recipes from any general cook books they have I would really appreciate that too as there is a good chance I have the book.

Thank you so much.

The Mediterranean diet means majoring on olive oil (for cooking and spreading and or as a dip plus garlic, plenty of garlic, with a little bread).

Cutting down (or out ) of junk food a good salad every day at lunchtime and lots of veg, low carb with protein ( I would cut out pork too, though the Southerners don't !!)

I like Claudia Roden's book.

Thank you very much. I don't have that book and have never heard of her so I will look on line. Thanks again.

Fish is more important for health than red meat too. If you're a veggie or vegan then it's important to take B12 supplements (eg use marmite or yeast flakes as a soup stock).

We've given up red meat and have only had lamb mince once since. Shepherds pie is one of dh favourite meals but I made a fabulous vegetarian one and didn't miss the meat at all. I normally put bacon lardons in with the mince.

How do carbs fit in? Where we are trying to cut down on meat we are having chicken twice a week but need to have completely meat free days so rice, pasta, eggs.

Well of course the Italians and the French major on wheat bread! (I have never understood why they continue to eat bread right through their meals that is so bad for them, and they complain about being fat and ill!). (We live between Fr. and Eng.!!) I would use whole rice (pudding rice, it cooks quicker) and maybe rice pasta. The Free From aisle and H.F. shops are your friends for wheat free products; they're much easier to digest than normal wheat.

We eat spelt and or whole rye or Kamut bread.

Italian diet is majorly carbs. Grin

Mediterranean diet is (very simplified) less red meat. More veg. Olive oil. More fish.

If you've got Italian/Spanish/Greek/Portuguese/north African recipes then you've got Mediterranean diet.

All your TV chefs have entire books with recipes from those areas. Nigella, Rick Stein (one called iirc Mediterranean something or other) Jamie etc etc.

I'd say as well that the MD generally means eating more at lunchtime and less in the evening.
In Italy traditionally, your pasta /rice dish will be at lunchtime, your meat plus salad in the evening.
Fruit after every meal.
