REFUSING BREAKFAST

My DS is now 16 months and has always been a terrible feeder and until a few months ago never had breakfast. I cut down his bottle which he guzzles down on waking to 3-4oz and for a few months did then start eating a bowl of cereal but refuses to eat anything else ) I am considering cutting out this bottle and offering him a cup of milk in a final attempt to introduce breakfast. However that would mean that he would only be getting a 7oz bottle at night. He will eat chunks of cheese but often will not touch yogs. Do you think that by this age 8oz milk is sufficent? When do most people cut out the morning bottle?

I can never get my dd to eat breakfast. Dhe's 21 months and a pain in the backside. She won't eat cereals at all. Yet at nursery always eats her cereal. Last week I brought soem croisants which she couldn't get enough of. So I'll stick with them for the time being. DD has 2 9oz bottles during the night but that's it. I just put the bottles in bed with her and she helps herself through the night she's been doing this from about 12 months old. She won't have a morning bottle as she see's her brother with what juice so she wants the same as him. Can you get milk into him via his meals?? For example banana custard for pudding or apples and custard??

Both my DDs were on just 1 bottle at bedtime by 16 months...so I don't think your DS will suffer if you cut out his morning bottle.

Maybe the thing to do is try it - if he wolfs brekkie down, you'll know you've done the right thing, but if he has nothing you may need to resume the bottle. I'd try it intermittently with different breakfasts until you find one he likes.

As woodpops said - could you add milk to his other food more - cauliflower cheese / custards / rice puddings. Or could you put breakfast back a bit so that hes hungrier?

Middle - my dd had a morning breastfeed till the age of 2, but to be honest I think she was getting very little milk from it (hazard a guess at 3-4 oz max). One morning I offered her a cup of milk as well and she guzzled it but then didn't want breakfast, so you may be right that your DS is just full up of milk.

You could either try moving breakfast later, or just skip the bottle and give him some nice cereal with milk. He may actually end up getting quite a lot of milk this way. My dd picks out all the cornflakes or branflakes first, but she then does quite a good job of scooping up the milk, or we help her scoop it up.

Give him cereal / toast or whatever first, then the cup of milk? Dd (2 on Sunday!!!!!!!!!!!!) never eats breakfast either. I usually get a little something into her then give her some milk but she doesn't even drink much of that. I think she'd be like me and have a strong black coffee on its own if she got the chance!!
