DS starts school today (after 2 years at home) and ive forgotten what i used to give him to eat after school when he came home.
his new school are really healthy food conscious and have asked us to help support this, so what do you give your hungry child/children when they come home from school?

TIA

a bowl of cheerios or a flapjack

their tea, as a rule.

Or an apple if there will be a longish wait, like till 5.30 (about the very latest they eat).

My dc usually have dry cheerios (they prefer them without milk)

Take advantage of his hunger - if he is famished he wil eat whats in front of him ie cut up fruit, yoghurts, veg sticks and dips, brown toast, healthy cereal etc!

DD doesn't have dinner until 6:30pm, when DH gets in - so she will almost always have a snack after school. Can be a biscuit, a small sandwich, fruit, vegetables, rice cakes and cheese, a snack bar, etc. I won't let her have sweets and chocolate before dinner, although she will have a small bag of crisps after swimming on a Wednesday.

Depends when tea is. If it is early, just a biscuit, piece of fruit, home-made muffin, piece of toast or small sandwich.

If he has to wait a long time until the evening meal, you can give a slightly more substantial mini-meal.

dinner at 4.30!

Fruit
Dried fruit and nuts
Crackers or breadsticks and cheese
toast and peanut butter/marmite/jam
Sometimes biscuits (especially if we've made some )

A mix of cut up fruit, crackers, cheese, rice cakes, breadsticks, raisins etc. If still hungry can help herself to yogurts or fruit.

We eat at about 7pm so mine have fruit, biscuit, sandwich, cereal, cheese, home made cake or cookies or whatever we've made that week, prawns or some weird combination of any of the above ;)

bowl of popcorn- nothing on it
cheese and crackers
fruit salad
muffin/crumpet/waffle/pancake or similar
jelly
dried fruit- pineapple rings or sultanas etc
something baked- cake or muffin or cookie if I have had time.

Mine have lunch at school at 11.15am and are ravenous. The snakc after school is part of our ritual together.

We like to keep a pot of home made hummus in the fridge with raw veggies for dunking. A glass of soymilk sometimes does the trick. If it's going to be ages till we have dinner (eg at weekends when we cook for friends) then rice/oat cakes and hummous or peanut butter and a banana. They're good little eaters so always have plenty of room again by dinner

My DS (6) has a plate of fresh fruit (2-3 pieces) cut up and something like peanut butter on toast or buttered malt loaf, crumpets or tea cakes.

Then he has dinner with us between 6 and 7.

And he complains of hunger in between the two meals as well.
