Can I salvage this?

Of all the times for my 10 year old microwave to pack in Sad

Anyway replacement arriving Wednesday.

I'd just started to defrost a prawn Thai curry with rice that made from scratch and frozen last week.

It was probably in there about 30 seconds and still seems frozen solid. Shall I leave it out to thaw and is there a safe way to reheat it later tonight?

Should I pop it back in the freezer and wait for new microwave?

Or does it need to go in the bin?

Let it defrost fully in the fridge overnight. If the rice & curry were frozen separately or you can separate them out I'd reheat the curry in a saucepan until it's piping hot. I'd make fried rice from the rice, I wouldn't try to reheat plain boiled rice in a saucepan as it'll go mushy, but fried rice would be good. Only reheat once, don't reheat any leftovers.

Thank you!
Yes I'll be able to separate them easily once defrosted.
Glad I don't need to waste a meal in these times!

You could steam the rice and reheat the curry in a saucepan. If they can't be separated, put in an oven-proof dish, cover with tinfoil and stick in the oven for about half an hour until its piping hot. Maybe add a couple of tablespoons of water to stop it drying out.

Yes, you could do the above as well, then you won't have the faff of making fried rice. Either way, enjoy!

Thanks both Smile
