Does it smell ok? I saw a cookery program where they said that meat is at it's best when it is brown, also my sister hangs her own meat and thats brown by the time she cooks it.

had you defrosted it to eat yesterday?

Tigi · 10/09/2007 14:38

no it was fresh in the fridge yesterday. i put it in freezer last night - the best before daye was 9th - yesterday. just dithering because if the brown juices etc. smells very meaty!

oh in that case i would eat it!

Eat it - it'll be fine. Well hung meat (ahem!) is supposed to be much tastier.

throckenholt · 10/09/2007 14:43

brown means it has oxidised a bit. Should be fine if you cook it. The use by date is not an absolute limit - it is just a reasonable time to expect it to be ok to eat if stored in a cool place.

wildwoman · 10/09/2007 14:44

of course if it makes you ill we hadnothing to do with it....

Tigi · 10/09/2007 14:44

wont make us ill?

meat is better when it has browned a bit - it has had a chance to oxidise and mature. It will be fine.

cross post- great minds!

It won't make you ill. It is beef we're talking about isn't it? I don't know I would eat brown pork!

Tigi · 10/09/2007 14:47
