Ok I have 5 dc ranging from 10 to nearly 2.
As you can imagine we are on quite a tight budget so I am looking for ideas for good simple meals as I am running out of ideas.

Thankyou

Tuna Pasta bake is a good cheap meal which my three all love and will all eat. There are quite a few recipes about - I did a google search and came up with lots.

I also make jacket potatoes filled with various things although all three like ham and cheese.

Yes, anything with minced beef - I made a lasagne last week that had a lot of hidden veg in it which not only made it healthy but made it go quite a bit further in quantity.

casseroles - chicken, beef etc but packed out with loads and loads of veg.Pearl barley goes wel with chicken

Spag bol - packed out with loads of veg can be eatehn with spag or as a basis for lasagne or served with jacket pots

cottage pie - add loads of veg and lentils.

mild curries - eg chicken - add loads of veg and lentils

macaroni cheese - I add bacon but 3 rashers seems to go a long way.

Home made soup - can add lentils and lots of veg....

Home made fish cakes, either with fresh fish or even tinned salmon.

we have a book called 'just one pot' which is good (try library?). very simple, easy food and cuts down on washing up!

stews and casseroles - use cheaper cuts of meat (not cheap and nasty meat, just cuts which are cheaper because they need slower cooking)

Chicken - buy a good quality chicken and then use every last scrap of it. There are five of us and we get 4-6 meals from one chicken.

Jacket potatoes with fillings. Risotto - if made with simple, quality ingredients it doesn't cost much but tastes gorgeous.

Things on toast (egg, beans, cheese) can make a main meal - add a bit of salad on the side to bulk out the veggies, I often put a big dish of cherry tomatoes out.

Home-made pizza - easy, cheap and tasty.

Eggs - omelette, scrambled egg, souffle etc can form the basis of many meals.

All the usual minced meat recipes.

Home-made soup - again, quick and dead easy. Serve with a good carb, home-made bread, garlic bread, savoury scones, crackers, whatever.

Pastry - if you can make a bit of pastry there are umpteen pies, quiches, flans etc you can make using any odd things in your fridge or cupboard!

Pulses - these are incredibly cheap, especially the dried ones. You can make so many meals, try Rose Elliot's 'The Bean Book' for ideas. Her 'Cheap and Easy' is also great for general cheap veggie meals for families.

And on the subject of veggie meals, eat meat-free meals 2-3 times a week, that really helps keep costs down and is good for you too!
