made-up bottles at nursery?

Hi. My ds has just started nursery and we were asked to give a tin of formula and when they run out they will let us know. My sister on the other hand uses a different nursery and she has to make up the bottles and take them to nursery. What are other people's experiences of this as I thought this was a bit strange. My sister thinks it's perfectly reasonable as she thinks it is a lot of work for them to sterilise all the bottles etc for each baby whereas I think that's one of the things we pay so much for!

DS's nursery used to make up all the bottles (and supply the formula) but since it was taken over by Nord Anglia (was Jigsaw) parents have to supply the bottles ready made up. DS started as the changeover happened so I have always sent his bottles in but it is the same price as before.

I think the staff think it was fine when they made up bottles but have to go by what Nord Anglia say. I think a reduction in price would be good though...

I just find it really odd - surely it's not good for the bottles to be in transit and then what if one day the baby was hungrier due to growth spurt or was teething so only wanted milk. There wouldn't be any extra.

When ds and dd were on formul our nursery made the bottles up. We used to have to supply the formula but now they supply it.

In dd's creche we always supplied the bottles made-up. TBH I preferred doing my own washing and sterilising and could check the teats etc. I'm sure they had extra supplies there in case of emergencies (spillages, very hungry baby etc), or you could always keep a carton in the babys clothes bag for this situation. Our commute there was 10 mins so bottles were still chilled and put straight in fridge.

Wow that's good that they supply formula. We take nappies too and they let us know when they've run out again. I think my sister has to pack nappies every day in her changing bag.

I supplied the (clean steralised) bottles with the boiled water in and the formula measured out in plastic bags to be added to the water.......

You were supposed to make it all up, but as it is at least 40 minutes to the nursery I wasn't happy with mad up bottles of milk sitting in the car that long - so this was my solution

at my ds's nursery they make up the bottles and supply the formula - they buy in the same formula as the child has at home

I would much rather the staff were in the room with my child looking after them and playing with them than stuck in the kitchen sterilising and making up bottles!
There's too much room for error, what if they were short staffed or just hurrying for whatever reason and they made up the wrong milk? This could be pretty dire for a baby with an intolerance who was on soya and was given ordinary formula, or who was allergic to certain things in some milks.

Blackduck, if you don't like the milk being transported for 40 mins how on earth do you go on when you take your baby out for the day?! Do you use it up within 40 minutes of you setting off from home with it? Insulated bottle carriers are made for that sort of thing.

And ready-made milk in cartons is also a choice.
