Hi,

I am thinking about starting a little cake making business. I have attached photos of cakes I have made for my daughter’s birthdays. I also add surprises to the cakes like ombré layers and smarties hidden in the centre.

I am unsure about pricing. What would you be willing to pay for cakes like these?

Thank you
x

About £40. They are lovely cakes, congratulations! I hope your cake business goes well.

Sorry, but I wouldn't pay for them as they are not better than what I could do myself. Chocolate fingers would work much better than kitkats for lining the peppa pig cake.

Starting cost £45 for choc one, £70+ for the others, I used to do this and it’s not cheap to make these cakes and very time consuming.
Check what others in your area charge, cost everything.
People are CFs and think it’s £5 ingredients, it’s not, know your costs and your worth.

My friend makes and sells her cakes. Due to one complaint, of which I do not know the details, she was to be checked by food hygiene, and has to pay public liability. She had to show she had a separate cooking area from where she prepares her family meals etc.

These costs need to be thought of.

I would pay £20 for a cake.

I know cake making takes lots of work but I don’t have more than that to pay on a cake, so if it was more expensive than that, I would just buy one from Tesco instead. It may not taste as nice, but I’m not a cake fan anyway and the kids would eat anything.

Sorry if that’s not very helpful but the question was what would YOU pay, which I have answered.

I paid £80 each time for these

They tasted even better than they looked

£60+

Well I think they look great! About 50 to 60 quid and see how that goes .Where are you in UK, BTW ? London /South East would expect to pay more .I think once you are "out there "then you could quite easily pay around £70.00 plus ! Dont forget your time ,ingriedants, and fuel costs of baking /mixing and so on . Really cute and different . Well done OP!

I’m London / south east and would be incredibly disappointed to pay more than £60 to receive this

I would pay £50-70 for a bespoke one, including delivery to me in London. For me, the difference between professional and good home Baker is not obvious. But I would want to choose the theme (e.g. Thomas the train rather than peppa) and to have less sugar and less icing. I also prefer some unusual flavors such as matcha, mango, pistachio and willing to pay a bit more for it.
