Low sugar sweet treats

DH has slightly raised blood sugar. Amazing as he is skinny and tests show he doesn't have a fatty liver.

He has given up all sweet things but it would be nice to have a few low sugar alternatives for him to have occasionally. I made some date and banana flap jacks which tasted ok but were so dry. Will try again with less oats to see if that makes a difference.

Anyone got and good low sugar/ low carb desert recipes?

not a dessert in itself but I have this chocolate dip, which I use to dip strawberries in

this 'sex in a pan' dessert is really nice too

Ooh they both look good! Thanks!

Strawberries!

You know that both dates and bananas are high in sugar right? Fair enough it might be natural sugar but the body doesn’t know the difference....
It would be worth looking at the low Glycaemic index approach

As a T1 diabetic my go to dessert treats are dark chocolate (75% and higher), berries and cream or Greek yoghurt. I also make berry crumble with almond flour, butter and vanilla essence. I sweeten with monk fruit sweetener or an ethanol/stevia combo.

Banana is a really no-no for me. But the only way to check is by testing blood sugar before eating and 2 hours after. If it is range then all good. If not then another alternative will need to be fine.

I do know that a lot of top T1 diabetic athletes use banana before training.

Set strawberries or raspberries in sugar free jelly and finish with a blob of whipped cream, like its 1970!!
You can also whip greek yoghurt or cream into a jelly and let it set to make a sort of low sugar mousse.
Scones are suprising low sugar and you can use a sugar alternative. There are also low sugar jams available.

Thanks- I made a batch of scones yesterday with half and half brown/ white flour. They had less than a teaspoon of sugar in each and were served with the stute jam and butter. Am going to try another batch with even less sugar as think I could cut it down further.

Like the jelly and fruit idea too. Have been looking for a low sugar ice cream but no where seems to do that.

When you read the label of dairy products remember that some of that sugar will be the naturally occurring sugar in the milk (lactose) rather than added sugar
I’ve heard good things about the Oppo brand

These are fab, I make them for school lunchboxes with 50%less sugar and no nuts, just a scattering of dark choc chips. I do use orange essence though which is a sweet favour. You could reduce the sugar to 25% and remember that the less you have it the less you need it!
