Hi, we are a very busy family we have 6 children ranging from 3
-12.
We home cook as much as we can but realistically it's not possible every night and we seem to have got stuck in a rut for what we get for kids teas and they seem to be getting the same things each week because they love them and then the get bored and don't eat it
Any ideas really appreciated!
Thank you x

Mine like
Fajitas (chicken or beef, but preferably chicken)
Burritos
Curry (but not too spicy)
Chilli and rice
Shepherds/cottage pie (with sweet potato mash for variety)
Meat pie and veg
Gammon, mash and veg
Fish& chips/potato smiles
Chicken mini fillets with chips/potato smiles
Pasta/spaghetti plus various sauces
Decorate your own pizza
Toad in the hole
Roast

Plus probably more I've forgotten

Assuming you want a main meal. Quick things we do:

Eggs- Spanish omelette, frittata, baked Mexican eggs
Pasta- in tomato sauce (and can add tuna, frozen prawns, any left over cooked sausages or cold meat), macaroni cheese
Rice- risotto, chicken and chorizo rice, chicken curry
Savoury pancakes ( kids like cheese, spring onions and sweet corn added to the batter)
Soups, sometimes add tortellini, quick and tasty

I tend to make one or two mince based meals or stews at the weekend which keep well and can be heated up with veggies after work:

Bolognaise, with pasta or potato and sweet potato wedges
Shepard’s pie
Mock moussaka with lamb mince (no one will eat aubergine Or courgette apart from me, so use potato instead)
Chilli, nice with turkey mince sometimes
Beef or chicken stew

And sometimes we have snackier things, soup and sandwiches, turn pittas into small pizzas, scrambled eggs on toast, a ‘picnic’ (which is cold meat, hummus, veg sticks, grapes, pittas or crusty bread).

I find a fry up or "grill" up suits everyone and is quick.

I do chicken sausage and poached eggs to make it a lot healthier and add tinned tomatoes and mushrooms along with the brand to bump up the veg quota.

I also do soup quite often - you can hide all sorts of veg in tomato soup and it freezes really well.

Listen, things like fish fingers, mash and frozen veg aren't bad. You've got your protein, carbs, fat & veg in there. Ditto something like jacket potato, cheese & beans. Lots of fibre! You do what you've got to do.

I have a fussy eater but I like making chicken skewers. Roast chicken and new potatoes. Noodles.

I have a really fussy 10 year old and a not so fussy 8 year old.

Their favourite is a really simple meal. I slice onions, celery and dice carrots, add sliced chicken breast and cook through then add a tin of mushroom soup. Cook through, then serve with rice. It is also good as the filler for a chicken pie.

It is so quick. so simple, and everyone in my family likes it.

My ds is 11, I work full time, so supper needs to be quick and “boy-friendly”. Plus I am not a good cook. So a winter week might be...

Butcher sausages, mash & buttered carrots
Young’s Breaded haddock, oven chips & peas
Sausage rolls and baked beans
Spaghetti and pre-made Meatballs in homemade tomato sauce
Grilled chicken breast with macaroni cheese.
Chicken fried with garlic and peppers on couscous cooked in veg stock & lemon juice.
Trout fillet with leeks and new potatoes.

None of these tales more than 5 mins to prepare and 40 mins in total.
