Is the risk of allergies still a problem for say a two year old?

I think it's one year if there is absolutely no history of allergy, but I'll check..

My DD was on peanut butter and other nuts from 9mo and no problems there. We don't have any allergies or asthma or anything in either family though.

My cousin's DD had peanuts practically from the day she was weaned and never had any problems. They lived in Jakarta at the time, though, and peanut allergies are unheard of there, possibly because they're omnipresent in the local cuisine.

Some books say a year, some 9 months. My DD is veggie though so I was keen to get an alternative source of protein into her.
