Feel stupid as I’m writing this but go easy on me. I’m trying to lose weight and watching my carbs but I am really craving macaroni cheese, is there such a thing as low carb pasta? I know it’s most probably wishful thinking but you never know.

Not so stupid. Both Tesco & Sainsbury’s do a ‘high protein’ range of pastas. Alternatively, wholewheat pasta with be lower gi and more filling.
Just go easy on the cheese 😁

You will lose weight by being in a calorie deficit, not 'watching carbs'.

You can still eat macaroni cheese and lose weight, you just need to make sure calories in is less than calories out.

Have a look at EatLean protein cheese as a way to cut out some fat from the recipe.

It's all the fat in the cheese that adds to calories, not carbohydrates...

I'm sure I've seen it online - like konjac noodles. I think there's a pasta version. Or you could use some big bits of pasta like giant conchiglie or rigatoni and pad it out with cauliflower (nice to roast the cauliflower first).

Have a small portion with some green beans, peas or broccoli on the side to help fill you up.

pasta and other carby foods are not 'bad' many contain a good amount of protein as well.

use whole meal pasta and add lots of veg (grated courgette and carrot are great)
enjoy!

Dull advice from me but have macaroni cheese but a weighed out portion with a huge salad or lots of veg on the side. Add some veg like tomatoes o the top. Or leeks....and no garlic bread.

There was something on BBC a couple of years ago that cooked and reheated next day pasta is better (from dieting point of view) than freshly cooked. ( it’s often my excuse Smile)
Also use the strongest Cheddar you can find — you’ll need less of it.

I'm not going to offer you diet advice as you never asked for it 😊 I've heard of this but never tried it www.hollandandbarrett.com/shop/product/eat-water-slim-pasta-penne-60007567

I have tried slim pasta and it's horrific Blush

I had pasta made from chickpeas for dinner tonight. Must be higher protein and lower carb than normal pasta - maybe try that? There are red lentil, black bean, edame bean and rice pastas available now.

Personally I'd buy a top notch ready made one or make yourself the most amazing one you can create, and have a moderate portion of it as an occasional indulgence, rather than try to make something inherently carby and calorific in general, not.

These are my tips-

  1. Add veg alongside or in the pasta eg macaroni with broccoli and cheese

Make a white sauce with flour and skinned milk, or unsweetened almond milk, ie., without the fat. Add mustard. Use a decent strength mature cheddar or stringer cheese, as you use less.

Don't have more than 50g portion of macaroni, rather than 75g. Bulk with veg as above.

There may be alternative low cal cheese sauce recipes worth trying too, egg quark or Greek yogurt based instead of milk and flour.

That should do it.

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you. I’m off to Tesco later and they have a Holland and Barrett’s, I’ll have a look there and Tesco’s own line too. Thanks for the idea of bulking up the mac&cheese with vegetables, I hadn’t thought of it because I was always used to having it on it’s own with a garlic bread Blush
