Instant porridge pots - which ones are nice?

I'm going away for a weekend and will have no access to cooking facilities (except a kettle) so am thinking of taking some of the pots that you just add boiling water to. I tried one last week and it was rank, I couldn't even finish it, and I love porridge!

Any tried and tested ones you'd recommend please?

I've found the Morrison's ones to be nice - but none are as good as proper porridge

The lidl original one is alright, quite sweet though.

Actually, I've got myself thinking now - is there any way to make porridge from porridge oats just using a kettle? I'd have thought they'd need cooking by some method? Maybe if I soak them in a little water the night before then top up with boiling water in the morning...?

The Moma sachets just need boiling water and they’re really nice!

Thanks for the suggestions so far - I'm not going for a few weeks so can try before I go...

Ready brek/instant oats would be ok with boiled water - you could add skimmed milk powder, I add ground almonds instead which makes it a bit creamier and adds protein.

I love proper porridge but hate the instant sachets. Try overnight oats instead (basically stick milk and porridge in the fridge overnight) you can add fruits, seeds, nuts etc

If you take a food flask, then you can just pour boiling water on porridge oats and leave them for 10 mins, and then add milk (or cream if you want extra creaminess).
The Moma sachets are nice though.

Moma or Wolfy's.

Moondancer73 · 28/01/2020 10:54

I like the Aldi ones

no fridge and I'm away for 3 nights...

Think I'm going to try the Moma sachets first Smile

The Moma sachets are lovely!

You can make your own though, with oats and dried milk and whatever else you fancy (dried fruit, nuts, chocolate etc etc). I used to make up a mix and bring it to work. It's fine made with boiling water - not as nice as proper porridge but fine.

I got the fuel 10k protein porridge pots in a clubcard deal from tesco. They're actually really nice and I would buy them again!

Notthebloodygym · 02/02/2020 22:19

Most of them are rammed with sugar and nasty.

My son and I have porridge every morning like cereal. We pour milk over oats and eat them. I couldn't bear cooked or soaked oats. We've survived a good few years of eating like this. DS will even use room temperature oat milk (mine has to be icy) so I'm sure hot water or heated milk poured over oats would be grand.

Stoats are the nicest I've tried along with Sainsbury's own brand and Tesco high protein.
