Does Halal chicken taste different?

I noticed it is a lot cheaper in my local Sainsbury's. For example 1kg of chicken thighs £3.50 Vs 640g for £340. Interested in any experiences. Thanks

I can confirm halal slaughter in the UK is exactly the same method as non halal slaughter. The only difference is there will be a tape playing in the background. No one blesses each individual chicken as it goes through the machines, if they did it would probably cost a lot more.

The price difference will be down to individual supplier costs/quality etc.

Kosher meat is more expensive because the slaughter rules will be stricter and is probably carried out on a smaller scale.

Halal is horrible .. eating meat is bad enough but halal slaughter is unnecessary !

Halal slaughter is the same as normal slaughter. You can’t taste a prayer

Idiots who read the daily fail think it’s crueller, and while you can get meat that was unstunned before slaughter it is hugely hugely unusual and often incredibly expensive.

Nearly 10% of Halal slaughtered chickens in UK are NOT pre-stunned. If that doesn't sound like many, it is actually over 90 million chickens. Per year.

And under EU legislation, animals killed without pre-stunning cannot be sold as organic. Guess that will go out the window shortly, along with a bunch of other animal welfare legislation.

Actually, in the UK, only (just over) half of the halal slaughters stun before killing. And I don't read the daily fail thanks!

I eat both - never tasted the difference.

Interestingly, a guy I spoke to the other day who has been a chef for 30 years said he reckons most meat is halal now.
