Anyone else's dh/dp do all the cooking?

Dh is away this week and BOY do I miss him....

I miss his cooking too! He is a brilliant cook, can look into a cupboard and conjure up a meal from anything, and they are always delicious and good for us.

Me - I look into the cupboard and say - sorry kids, it's pasta and cheese tonight

I am a rubbish cook but I admit it's partly laziness as I've never had to do it.

Anyone else leave it all to dh/dp?

Only in my dreams

Me!

dh loves cooking, says it helps him relax when he gets in. I love cooking too but never seem to get the time these days so do more baking now.

dd's 2 best mates both have dads who do all the cooking too. Maybe something in the water round here...

My dh used to work nights, and would have dinner ready for me and children when we came in from school. Having dinner at 3 meant we could eat together before he went to work.

Now when we get in, I have to get them a snack, clear up after breakfast, (never time in the morning), bf the baby, supervise homework and make dinner.

Needless to say, I don't make shepherds pie, like dh used to, on the other hand we don't have to have bacon and cabbage anymore, which I hate.

In fact, yesterday, we had my favorite dinner which is tuna and pasta, which HE hates. Every cloud has a silver lining.

He is a better cook than me, because he puts more effort into it. I just make do, with anything edible. Not for me chicken en croute with ginger and corn.......life is just too short.[

Are you my twin Miaou?!

Dh loves cooking, and is very good at it. I have a few tried and trusted recipes, and quite enjoy it if I have an unlimited budget, and appreciative audience, and no kids around whilst I'm cooking.

Atm I cook huge batches of points-free (Weightwatchers) soup for the freezer, and he does just about everything else.

Are you mad? DH managed to burn the pan steaming some broccoli last night! If we all want to eat and want to eat in a house that hasn't burnt down then I know who has to do the cooking!!!
My next husband will be a domestic god - but will probably be in my next life...

Yep dh does all our cooking except the kids' weekday teas- and that's only cos he's not back by then! Tbh although I love his meals, I'm not interested in cooking at all and the kids have had to get used to my limited repertoire.
I have been known to burn boiled eggs by putting them on to boil and completely forgetting about them.

My dh is one of three brothers and his mum was a great cook and taught them all. I am eternally grateful!

Up to 4 weeks ago DH was in charge of the kichen, he cooks wonderfully but I claimed the kitchen back (after 6 yrs) because there was no way to loose weight with his food!

Mine cooks more than i do plus he irons too

My dh does all the cooking here which I love!! Mind you he trained with the Roux brothers and Carluccio and we have a restaurant so why put up with my miserable offerings when he can cook fantastic stuff!!!!

jac34 · 01/10/2004 16:05

My DH does as well!!! He's much better at it than me, and as you said, Miaou, can make a meal out of nothing. As he does all the cooking, he also does all the food shopping as well, because he knows what he wants to buy.In fact, he's proberbly wandering around Tesco's as I type.
My cooking is so bad, that if he goes out for the night, he will usually cook something in advance, to warm up, so that he knows the kids have had a proper tea.

PicadillyCircus · 01/10/2004 16:08

Yes me - I can just about do spaghetti bolognese but that's about it. I do cook DS's food though.

Oh and I cook pizza better; DH always burns it.

conker · 01/10/2004 16:09

OMG! I will get my dh to read this thread, he rarely cooks. When he does it is delicious, but as I say iot is rare

colinsmommy · 01/10/2004 16:15

DH used to do all the cooking for the first 4+ years of our marriage. He had previously worked as a chef in an Italian restaurant, and I couldn't do much more than boxed macaroni and cheese. However, since I've been home with the baby, I felt guilty and have been cooking pretty much all the meals. I am proud of myself, because I have really expanded to where I feel confident of making anything. I called almost everyone I knew last Thanksgiving to tell them I made pie crust. However, I do beg him every once and awhile to make lasagna, or something like that, because my Italian dishes are nowhere near as good as his.

whizzz · 01/10/2004 18:15

Yes - He does it so well, that I now feel inadequate ! Why can men look into a cupboard & make a meal ?? I can cook BUT I need a recipe to follow.
(He made an apple pie the other week & even made pastry leaves to but on the top.....should I be worried ???)
