In the past I've made chicken casserole, lasagne and lamb tagine.
I'll make it the day before and take away to a family get together for 6, including two hungry teens.
Curry would be good but I've never made a good one.

why dont you do the most popular one you did previously? Do you put it in a cold box, or freeze and then defrost? Personally i wouldnt fancy eating something thats been left in the warm for 4 hours....

SexlessBoulderBelly · 20/01/2020 20:48

Chilli?

SittingwithPippa · 20/01/2020 20:59

@dreamingofsun. I make it the day before , put it in the fridge then the boot of my saloon car. I don't think it'll be too warm at this time of year.
I've been googling and found a beef in Guinness dish.

A friend of mine used To travel home
To Greece where her mum would make a huge spanakopita - she'd bring it back in a suitcase and we would feast the next day- it was amazing! Pack it with some ice blocks and in a cold bag and it'll be fine.
Chilli would be good. Bourginon. Veggie curry?

Would avoid chicken, pasta , rice to travel. Only because of their love of breeding bacteria

@Sexless, my DB is making a chilli for another evening.

For this sort of situation I make a lasagne in advance , freeze it and then bring along frozen as it will defrost a bit on the journey but I can just adjust the cooking time based on what it's like when I get there.

I took a cottage pie with me for a similar length trip and it was fine.

Grembolina · 20/01/2020 21:10

A big beef pie? Jamie Oliver has a really nice recipe, royal wedding pie or something.

Hot pot? Fajitas all wrapped and stacked in a large dish?

FawnDrench · 20/01/2020 22:06

Goulash
A big pie
Beef bourguignon

How about this Beef and celeriac horseradish cobbler you could make In advance and take frozen or make the day before if you can keep it cool for the journey

SexlessBoulderBelly · 21/01/2020 02:23

Beef stroganoff.. then just get packs of microwave rice to go with it to do when you get there?

Blondie1984 · 21/01/2020 02:37

Braised oxtail or lamb shanks

chesterfuckingdrorrs · 21/01/2020 02:46

Chicken dhansak (not sure of the spelling) bbc good food have a good recipe that's tastes pretty good.

ChicChicChicChiclana · 21/01/2020 03:31

Don't make something with beef if your brother is doing chilli another night.

How about fish pie? Or cheese and potato pie made with pastry. Or roasted veg lasagne. Or chicken casserole.

Absolutely anything will be fine if not refrigerated for 4 hours. How did people survive before fridges? (ie. before about 1950).

Have you seen the stuff on cooking using your car?

You need a Wonderbag

"Wonderbag is a simple but revolutionary non-electric, portable slow cooker. It continues to cook food (which has been brought to a boil by conventional methods) for up to 8 hours without the use of additional electricity or fuel"

If you want to make a curry, have you tried the Made in India mum’s chicken curry recipe? It’s fairly simple and I can’t see how it could go wrong.

How about something like pulled pork that you can serve with either salads/wraps, or mashed potato depending on what you fancy?
