How to ice the ‘hill’ on my daughters birthday cake

I have made a Victoria sponge cake for my daughters 4th Birthday. Also made a small cake to go on top and make a ‘hill’ for Elsa’s castle to go on (frozen themed). Only iced a normal sponge before. Have white ready to roll icing plus glitter spray to look like snow. Would it be possible to add the small cake first and then ice it in one sheet (so no joins between bottom of the hill and rest of cake). Or would this be really difficult and would I be better to ice them both separately and then add the hill? This would obviously mean there would be a join at the bottom of the hill.

You need to carve the cakes into a hill shape and then cover the surface with buttercream before icing. It would be easier to just buttercream it & forget the icing.

If you make the buttercream as a 1 block of butter to 1kg of icing ratio, it will be very white and stiff, if you don't add too much water. I use water not milk. It will be very sweet too.

Buttercream won’t be white though.
Fondant should stretch ok though to do the two together, just ease it over.

Ha cross post. I’ve never managed white buttercream but maybe it’s possible!

The ratio I mention will make it close to white but not pure white. It will be white enough.

I would have baked the cake in a Pyrex bowl and then another in a slightly larger sandwich tin or 2, then carved to blend.

Thanks all. Already have the ready to roll icing, so was definitely planning to use that.

PullingMySocksUp might risk doing it in one sheet then as I do think it will look better, thanks.

I think I'd use royal icing to look like snow. It's easy to make and use and it's white.
