Ripen at home avos...

... they don't. They go off before they ripen. DH has been told not to buy them, but - guess what?

I've searched, & it seems that putting them in a paper bag with bananas works. But, we don't like bananas.

Any other ideas, please?

I put them in the fruit bowl to ripen and then in the fridge to stop them over ripening if I need to keep them a bit longer.

If you don’t have an apple or banana to throw in with your avos, try filling the bottom of the bag with approximately 2 inches of flour. Place the avocado on top, and tightly seal the bag. In this case, the yeast in the flour works as the ripening agent.

I have given up! Last time I wanted to make guacamole in large amount I bought frozen from Ocado … They did the job much better. You never know what you’re going to get with fresh ones.

You can microwave to soften - is an acceptable solution especially for guacamole...

Thanks for your help. DH bought a pack of 4, so I can try the apple, flour & microwave tips.
Never knew about frozen avos, I'll look out for them.
