I've just been to ikea because someone told me I could get large ice cube trays, and they didn't have any. Does anyone know where I can get them from? Thanks

Do you mean each cube is large, or the tray has lots of cubes?

LadyPenelope · 27/09/2004 15:08

Not sure but you can get ice cube bags at supermarkets so you can make loads of ice.

Sandi102 · 27/09/2004 15:42

I found the standard cheap white plastic no-gimmick ones were the best for baby food, I think we bought a load from a pound shop or local store with a kitchen dept. Don't get those thin rubbery ones, they are hard to streilise (boiling water shrivels them).

I have some brilliant large ice cube trays - as in the cubes are large, not the trays. I still sometimes use them for dd - and she's 2! They came from a local shop selling very cheap kitchen stuff, all sorts of plastic junk. One of those shops with mops and buckets hanging outside! Not very helpful to you, but keep hunting, because I have found them invaluable compared with the normal sized ice cube trays.

Sandi102 · 27/09/2004 16:50

thanks pidge, i'll try hunting for them tomorrow.

I initially just bought some cheap ones in Tesco. Did find they were a bit small though and when I tried to freeze cubes of milky things like custard, cheese sauce, think I even tried rice pudd., it was totally impossible to get the cubes out.

Very best ones I found were the ones from Blooming Marvellous - they're expensive, something like £5.99 for 3 large trays, but they have actually been worth it. They hold large amounts and it's easy to push the cubes out. Still using them now 2 years on.

Great Little Trading Company stocks a fantastic one expressly for freezing baby food. It's gigantic and the food cubes pop out unbelievably easily. I've given the trays as gifts on occasion. If you don't get their catalogue, you can find GLTC online.

Egypt · 27/09/2004 20:55

have looked on GLTC website but cant see the trays. can anyone point me in the exact direction please?!?!?

expatkat · 27/09/2004 21:05

You're right about it's not being on the website, which suprised me, so I double-checked. I have the catalogue downstairs. When I get a chance, I'll see if it's still listed in the catalogue. Did you try a google search using key words like "ice cube tray baby food?"

Lakeland do great 'flexible' ones that are really easy to get the food out off ... they're not huge, maybe a heaped teasp per cube and come two to a pack. I also got from Lakeland their flexible muffin tray (holds 6 muffins) which I use to freeze portions for DS1 ... he's almost 3 and one 'muffin' sized portion of say pasta in sauce is pretty much ample for him.

expatkat · 27/09/2004 21:16

GLTC seems to have discontinued them, which is a great shame. And I bought one from them only a year or so ago. I looked at mine & it's a Spanish make, so I gather won't be easy to track down. Sorry!

Blooming Marvellous do large ice cube trays with lids to make bigger cubes of a baby food. £3.99 for 2 trays I think.

i got a huge ice cube tray from ikea, if you can bear the thought of the queues..
