Reheating mince

As far as I'm aware mince is only supposed to be reheated once - once it's cooked am I correct?

Scenario is: want to cook chilli con carne in slow cooker & reheat the leftovers as & when. If I brown off the mince tonight & leave all the mixture ready to put on slow cooker in morning that will then count as the mince has been reheated / heated up twice?

What I usually do is brown off all the mince & put it in hot mixture straight away in slow cooker so technically it's only been cooked once this way.

Just can't be arsed to get up super early before work to brown off mince etc.

So if I brown off the mince tonight & add it to cold slow cooker mixture in the morning then cook it all tomorrow in slow cooker, then the leftovers cools & gets reheated again am I going to get the lurgies?

TIA.

I do this regular with mince and never have any issues!

OP, I live alone. I often make a large batch of chilli con carne with a pound of mince, plus kidney beans etc. I eat a quarter of it when it’s cooked, and stick the rest in the fridge in a sealed container. I then eat a portion each night for the next three nights, warming each portion up in the microwave separately.
I’ve been doing that for the last ten years and never had food poisoning yet!

PS. If I get bored with it, I freeze a portion or two and thaw and heat them a few weeks later. Again, no problem.

I never brown my mince in the slow cooker. I put it in raw. It works fine.

i do this all the time... we exist 90% on leftovers. i've never poisoned anyone, not even the toddler.

eurgh i definitely wouldn't put it in the slow cooker without browning it first though! (a) they don't get hot enough to be safe for that and (b) who wants to eat grey pap mince that's where the flavour comes from 🤢

OP, yes technically you are correct - cooked foods (not just mince) should only be reheated once... But many people often reheat the same pan more than once, without issue.

For example, I make a big pot of soup, if I want to eat some later, I take a portion out of the pot and heat it separately. However, My DM would often reheat the entire pot, more than once, over a few days.

So technically you should brown & continue to cook your mince at once.. Then you can still reheat it again later...
Buy sure you'll be fine. If you're concerned why don't you cook the whole lot overnight tonight, and pop it in the fridge in the morning

If it's really lean mince then there's no real need to brown first.
