Does this contain too much salt for my 7 month old?

I make my shepherd pie with a beef oxo cube and a can of baked beans in it. I don't add any salt to the meat or the potatoes, but I know there is alot of salt and sugar in beans, but is it too much? And is there alot of salt in stock cubes? Thanks!

I would prefer to make my own stock or buy an unsalted stock(by joubiere in Waitrose). Baked beans also has a VERY VERY high salt/sugar content in it, so if you want to add beans use a normal canned borlotti/ cannelloni bean thats been soaked a while & rinsed to get rid of the salt and add loads of tomatoe paste.

I preffered wainting until 12 mths to give any salt at all.

you could always buy the low salt cans of beans. BIt more expensive but worth it! I used to put kidney beans in mine and my son loved to pick them out and eat then!

I don't have a waitrose near me, does anywhere else stock unsalted stock? How do you make your own melsy?

can you buy from ocado/waitrose online?? or check with joubiere were they stock it??

Just get the butcher to give you a nice boney parts of lamb and beef (the marow gives the flavour)and boil then simmer FOR HOURS with lots of veg, skim fat off the top and then strain. You then simmer again until thickened and becoming darker. I used to do it with vel bones from butcher but ebing preganant put me off !!!

you can buy baby gravy from boots so if you just separate off some of the mince and beans before adding gravy you could make a batch and freeze it!

found joubere website spelt it wrong before , as just checked on ocado!!

May be you can find stockists on there , or phone them. Theyre great to have for nice gravys anyway!!!

have a look here
The salt issue totally confuses me but have read that baby can have 1g of salt a day which is equivalent to 0.4g of sodium. A can of baked beans alone has 0.7g of sodium, it depends how much sodium is in an oxo cube really and how much you make ie if you're making enough for a family of 4 then baby'n not going to get that much of a concentration IYSWIM. I always separate dd's portion before I add the salty stuff and add her own gravy/stock etc bought specifically for her
