Got a kitchen aid for christmas and it came it the ice cream maker. Going to make some tommorrow. Recipe states 600ml of whipping cream and 600ml of half and half! Whats half and half. Im going to use full fat milk. Book does say elsewhere that you can use any combination of liquid. Im assuming its something american.

it's a mixture of "half cream and half milk" IIRC

Right, ok thanks. Havent got enough cream to do that, I'll give it a bash with full fat milk I think. I think it will work out ok, just wont be as rich, which might be a good thing.

It's an American term for quite a light, lower-fat cream. Don't think we have an exact equivalent.

Half and half is the nasty UHT stuff that Americans put in their coffee. It's supposed to be half cream and half milk (not that it's easy to get proper cream in America).

Maybe single cream is the closest approximation?

I am pretty sure that Tescos sold half and half for a while, don't know if they do now. You can make it quite easily by putting half double cream and half full fat milk together IIRC.
