Hi, did anyone have success with making pasta without pasta machine? If yes, please could you share a recipy with me? I've done it some years ago and I only remember that I've used a lot of flour having made a tiny amount of pasta suitable for 1 small child. i'd like to try it again but making it for my family. Could anyone help me please?

Jamie Olivers is usually fool proof, give me a minute and I'll get the recipe!

Ok, this is enough for 6 he says.
600g '00' flour
6 eggs
Make a well in the centre of the flour either in a big bowl or straight on worktop. Crack eggs into it and beat them, then start bringing in the flour until you can use your hands. Then kneed until its like silky elestic. Cover in cling film and rest for 30 mins. Then shape into whatever you want.

That's brilliant, MaureenMLove, thank you so much. I'll have a go.

That's brilliant, MaureenMLove, thank you so much. I'll have a go. Sorry, did you mean plain flour?

Oh just buy it from morrisons or summat. Pasta making from scratch is well boring and pointless.

He says strong flour, so I guess thats the strong bread flour. The '00' refers to how fine it is. I think it says it on the bag.

Thank you.

It will take you ages to roll it out....

I have discovered that McDougalls (sp?) pastry flour is a 00 flour - may be easier to get hold of than 'pasta' flours.

Thank you, that sounds interesting. i agree with you about the rolling and I was hoping someone has tried to make it and could share the experience. I'm a bit frightened to have a go now as everybody is at home and I don't want them all to see if i fail.

I do use a pasta machine - the thing about it taking ages is based on a friend of mine doing it without.
What I found, though, was that it was really hard to stop it sticking together, so you need to flour it very generously, preferably with semolina flour, and perhaps hang it up to dry an hour or two before cooking.

Thank you. I don't have pasta machine and I'm trying to loose some weight. I wonder if it's a good idea to go for it now as if I cook it I'll definately want to eat it.
