I can't rightly remember but I thought this terribly wrong and that his digestive system would not be ready for this??

Can't say anything to mum until I am really sure but baby was brought to my house by his grandfather and had chicken and some sort of veg - 2 cubes for kunch after 8 ounce bottle followed by pear or apple or something!! I didn't realise it was meat until I was told to nuke it till it was burning and then let it cool cause you should with chicken??

I would like to know if this is wrong what it would do to the baby - this is the girl who told me that you shouldn't give babies baby rice because of the gluten (thought gluten was wheat??) and that there was no scientific proof that breast was best?? (As well as baby walkers and travel systems were devils play things and would permanently disable my child!!)

She is utterly strange - also moaned that baby was being fed 15 minutes early and that he should have been made to wait - when baby had been screaming for 20 mins already!!

People who are allergic to eggs can also be allergic to chicken. Has she given him eggs yet? If so, then you probably don't have a hope of changing what she does, but if not, then you might like to point out to her the connection between eggs and chickens!

what a barker

I gave ds's congee (chinese rice porridge) with made with my chicken stock at 6 months, then upped it to bits of chicken meat by 7.

I doubt there will be any lasting damage from the chicken, but she sounds like she needs to chill the bleep out a bit. (easy for an old hand like me to say. )

That's no GF baby twiglett - my dd was and started off on the usual baby rice, carrots, turnips, pears etc. (Didn't you know GF babies don't scream! - they're so content!)

Twinkie I would keep out of it, I doubt she'll thank you for interfering?

Twinkie · 23/09/2004 14:19

I would love to keep out of it but she goes on and on when I see her about what you should do with a baby - me being pregnant and all - not that I already know cause I have a happy, gluten addicted, baby walkerfied, travel systemy 4 year old FFS!!!!

I could not believe it though - not giving gluten but pumping chicken in at that age - and Rusks are a killer too apparently - I think I only ate rusks for the first year or so of my life - and look at me I hear you chorus - oh but she gave him a party ring to munch on the other day!!!!!

She sounds either mad or highly ill at ease with her baby and is spouting cobblers to overcompensate imo . How old is she? 5 months sounds about right for the meat protein thing according to my memory on the advice I had with DD 5 years ago...its all changed now of course...

Twinkie · 23/09/2004 14:38

She is 21 I think - I have no idea where she gets this advice from - she told me she had been told by her best friend who was a trainee midwife that there was no proof breat was best - think half of it she makes up to be honest!!

I suppose I will just have to try and bite my tongue next time she spouts off about what we all shoul dbe doing with our babies!!

grrrr. just some of the health benefits of breastfeeding

Twinkie · 23/09/2004 15:19

Have printed them out before and gievn them to her but she told me it is propoganda - although not sure she knows what the word means tbh!!

This is ridiculous -no, no, no, no, no, - people wean their babies far too early - no wonder we end up with overweight kids! Start with a bit of baby rice or rusks mushed down with milk, thats all they need at that age - thats ample to start with - give the digestive tract a break! chicken and veg?! for goodness sake! -

Remember that young couple who fed their baby mashed potato - and the salt in it killed the child? Speak to her now!

Twinkie · 23/09/2004 15:33

She won;t listen to anyone - even her own parents - she is apparently giving him everything now so he has a diverse diet and likes lots of different things.

I know I know it doesn't work like that DD is probably one of the best children when it comes to eating and she only ate heinz egg custard or rice poudding for the first god knows how long but the young lady in question won't have it - what she is doing is right in her mind and thats that!!

I just thought if I could actually tell her it is harming him she might believe me and stop it now!! She is concerned about how much he drinks though as it is next to nothing (other than milk) and he is constipated or just doesn't poo much!!

OP posts:
JoolsToo · 23/09/2004 15:42

I'm not surprised he can't poo - bloo*y hell! the poor child - he'll be all blocked up - milk is all he needs right now and a little water - maybe a bit of orange juice to get his poo moving - oh dear, this is quite worrying!

prettycandles · 23/09/2004 20:38

If he is eating meat then he needs to drink water! The poor little thing probably is constipated. On the one hand, she probably won't thank you for interfering, but OTOH it sounds like the little boy needs someone to interfere. But how to do it tactfully?

californiagirl · 24/09/2004 04:19

She sounds very annoying, and her choices are awfully dubious, but honestly, I don't think chicken at 5 months is that big a deal. I bet it does cause constipation, but so do rice cereal and bananas in lots of babies!

Arguing with this woman is probably pointless, and I'd certainly save it up for some topic where the baby was definitely being harmed. On this one, I'd just suggest safe constipation remedies for the poor little mite, although you could throw avoiding meat into the list.

Skate · 25/09/2004 13:56

I thought that meat shouldn't be introduced until about 6 months?
