Corn on the cob - can you freeze?

I know the obvious answer to this is YES because you can buy bags of them in the freezer at the supermarket, but...

I am about to have a bumper home-grown COTC crop. Once it needs picking, it needs eating and I'd like to freeze some but how do you do it - can you just shove it in or do you need to blanch it in boiling water, and if so how long for?

And if the answer is to blanch it, doesn't it lose all it's vitamins?

Fine. I know exactly what to do with them, I'll come round your houses and ram them up your collective asses for not replying to my tedious thread

We have a huge crop every year too - we blanch ours for approx 3-4 mins, depending on size. Then plunge immediately into ice-cold water, let it cool, drain and then freeze. We wrap ours in foil in individual cobs, then we can cook it from frozen if we want - roasted is lovely.

Just make sure you blanch it as soon as possible after picking - my husband goes to the allotment to pick up, rings me up to say he's about to leave and I get the water boiling. It really does deteriorate quickly. And make sure you eat some while it's gorgeous and fresh too!

Thank you, portonovo, I officially love you thanks for the helpful advice - blanching it is then!
