Help, Bakers! How do I ganache and then move an awkwardly shaped cake?

It's a cake in the shape of the number 2. I have a very runny ganache icing to pour over it so I can't do it in situ without it looking a mess but every time I try to move it I break the bloody thing. Please don't let my third attempt be a disaster too!!! Is the answer to do different icing? Help! And thanks :-)

Maybe use baking paper as your base and when dry try and peel it back on itself?

a thicker ganache?
the one from the bbcgood food ultimate chocolate cake is quite thick. and once it's set you can scrape off and eat the excess

Put it on the thing it’s going to stay on. Cut strips of baking paper and put a little under the cake and on the board to protect board. Once set remove strips

Exactly what Redtartanshoes said.

You're all wonderful! I don't think this ganache is going to set usefully enough so I think I'll give the bbc one a go. Fingers crossed for third time lucky!

Definitely try a thicker ganache but this is my favorite pro tip... Put the cake on the cake board with strips of greaseproof just under the edge of the cake all round it. Once iced, gently slip the greaseproof strips out and voila, iced cake ready for presentation.
