I'm based in a Travelodge this week working crazy odd hours. Anyone got any tips on food I can take with me to try and eat a balanced diet for 5 days or so? No microwave available, only a kettle. All I can think of is pot noodles at the moment Confused

Sandwiches, salad or cold pasta in a Tupperware, fresh fruit

What shops are close by, and do you have access to a fridge?

FlyMayBe · 20/08/2019 13:48

No fridge sadly. Not too far from big tesco. I've got my car with me so can get about.

In similar circumstances I've bought fresh pumpkin or spinach tortelloni or ravioli with a fresh pesto pot and a bag of salad. As long as they are made with fresh pasta, the ravioli/tortelloni will cook in poured boiling kettle water in a couple of minutes. Just remember to bring a large bowl to cook them in.
You could also do picnics of seedy crackers or ciabatta rolls with good cheese, figs, baby tomatoes, olives etc.
If you are near a supermarket, several of them sell hot roast chicken quarters which you could have with salad and some sell hot ready meals such as veg curry.

I had a very small microwave that fitted into a holdall - lots of possibilities. Just remember to hide it before Housekeeping arrived.

Your employer sounds very unreasonable expecting you to survive for more than one night in a TL!

When dd3 was a newborn in hospital I spent a week there trying to live out of a carrier bag. I went to big Tesco and got some porridge pots for breakfast with croissants. I also got some oranges and apples and little cartons or juice and bottles of water. DH used to bring me sandwiches and microwave meals (that doesn't help you). One night he went to a local Chinese takeaway and got me a huge chicken chilli ramen which was full of veg. Do you not get an allowance for food?

FlyMayBe · 20/08/2019 23:29

Just been googling mini-fridges! Some great ideas there, ladies. Especially the fresh pasta - my favourite.

I agree is not fair I am in a TL. My DH gets a Hilton when he goes away. How the other half lives!!

I've got a food allowance. Just no time to go out and enjoy it. Hence me wanting to have stuff in my room. Work- eat- sleep. Repeat.

Tinned tuna, couscous, get a travel kettle and you can boil eggs in it ....

Do have a look at the Travelodge menu though - there are a few things there that you could have - e.g. the Superfood Salad with Chicken - ask for the dressing on the side and put it on yourself - or the ask for the fishcakes/half roast chicken with salad instead of chips
