Hi I was thinking of doing an igloo Christmas cake this year as my young niece would love it but I can't find anywhere a recipe for a fruit cake in a dome (half sphere) tin.. any ideas? It's a 9 inch based dome... any thoughts/ ideas welcome even if it's just mixture sizes or even times?

Thank you

I think i would just make the normal cake And use icing or marzipan to create the dome on top.

Fill the mould with water, then measure the quantity of water used. Then do the same with some round cake tins and see which has the same volume. That said, you probably want the domed mould filled and most cakes don't quite come up to the top of the tin they are baked in, so measure the water used to come up to the likely cake line.

Sorry, I forgot to add.....Then use a recipe for that size of round tin. The cooking time will be around the same but, with a rich fruit cake, cook it on a low heat for a long time and check it with a skewer after 3/4 of the expected cooking time and gauge it from there.

Christmas pudding bowl and fiddle with your measurements to match the size? Cook in a slow cooker if you are unsure about timing. It’s much more forgiving.

Pinterest have some dome Christmas cake recipes (and igloo decorating ideas)

I would do a fruit cake round then a rice cake marshmallow mix for the dome.
