Best way to cook a turkey leg?

My dp loves turkey, I'm a veggie. I always buy turkey legs for him and just bung them in a roasting dish for an hour or so. More often than not they either come out dry looking, or looking nice but still have blood in them when I go to cut them up.

I don't have much of a clue about meat, should I be wrapping them in foil first, or cooking them for longer/lower heat? I tend to cook meat to death in case I poison him.

Also, can anybody recommend anything I should put on top of the turkey leg to make it taste better? Right now I don't put anything on it, I'm not sure what goes with turkey.

Help!

I buy turkey legs for myself.

Get a meat thermometer so you dont poison him they are very useful and fun for you to use in between.

Preheat over to the about 250 to heat

Put some sliced onions on a base for the leg to sit on.

Put the bird in then reduce to about 200

Cook for about an hour.

If you dont have a meat therm stick a fork in a sort of full the meat aside and then press down it should be clear and golden liquid. (I always check in a couple of places, the last bird i had said 60 mins but took about 100/110 mins so you have to check and not just go on the package instructions.

flavourings could be get some butter and chopped garlic/parsley/chili anything that dh likes and put it under the skin. It is easier to prise up the skin on a chicken but could work on a turkey. I done it on a chicken and my ds said it was very yummy.

You could cover with foil and take of for the last 20 or so minutes if dh likes to eat the skin if not leave it on but it wont looked so cooked.

Thanks jellyjelly! I'll try it your way next time and see how I get on! Last night I just wiped them with olive oil and seasoned them with salt and pepper. Not very adventurous but dad and dp seemed to like them, that's the main thing!

Cheers
