stupid weaning question

I have been carefully avoiding all the baby food jars that say 4 months but the ingredients include gluten, chicken etc etc. What I would like to know is when do you consider your baby to be six months. I know this sounds daft but my sister counts the weeks and says that her ds is 24 weeks and therefore 6 months so she's started with the weetabix and chicken etc. I thought six months would be the date ie ds was born 1st April so 6 months would be 1st October not this Thursday (16th Sept) which is 24 weeks. Am I going insane? Also wonder because nursery are giving food appropriate for 6 month baby eg chicken casserole so are they 2 days early or 2 weeks early?! (so so sorry for insane post)

Personally I would agree with you and say baby is 6 months old actually 6 calendar months after her date of birth. But, having said that, I think you can be fairly flexible with dates in this case. They are a guideline really. If your daughter is eating and pooing okay then I think that tells you that the food she is eating is okay for her to digest.
I'm not a professional though vict17, just another mum.

TBH, I doubt it matters much either way. They aren't not ready one day and ready the next because they're 6 months old.

I always assumed 6 months was 6 months though, not 6 x 4 weeks.

A couple of weeks isn't going to make much difference. Should you be worried about her diet? By that I mean, is he likely to have problems. If not, I wouldn't worry. Like mckenzie, I'm just another mum

The health professionals when they talk about weaning at 6 months mean 26 weeks so I would assume it is the same for gluten etc.

Similarly 4 months is 17 weeks not 16.

Thanks everyone. Ds seems fine, pooing and sleeping fine, a happy little bundle (most of the time). I think I'll keep an eye on what they give and I'll stick to my fruit/veg purees for next couple of weeks.

Hello,
Try All GOOD Stuff baby food, its simple, organic and has NOTHING nasty in it at all, it is suitable for all ages of babies from 4 months onwards, its in neat little portions so you use just what your baby needs, you can keep it in the freezer too. Its also vegetarian and approved by The Vegetarian Society. You can get it in Sainsburys Chilled ready meal aisle (not the baby aisle because there's no chillers there).
