Hi everyone,

I'm now starting to get concerned, my ds insists on skipping meals, just to get him to eat we need to keep him entertained as it is, but more recently he's just refusing to eat some meals. I dont know if this is normal behavour for a 16 mth old. Any advice???

Provide food every 2.5 - 3 hours, and let him eat if he wants to. Don't entertain or distract the food into him, just take it away if he's not eating it. He's probably isn't hungry.

ds still refuses meals.and he's 2! just stay calm and dont make a fuss about it. he'll eat when he's hungry. at this age they have no real idea of set mealtimes.

he use to eat with no problems, 3 meals a day and snacks between, however i cut out the snacks as he wasn't eating his main meals and it's more recently he'd just rather play than eat.
The only things he wants to eat is the snacks whilst playing, and it's made more difficult as i live in a small flat and dont have seperate room from his toys which i can take him into for feeding.
for example: He might not eat breakfast, but will eat biscuits with no trouble. I have even tried toast and crumpets with no luck.

Don't give him biscuits then, give him toast again, or fruit. Don't cut his snacks, he needs them.

Toddlers don't eat much AT ALL. His stomach is the size of a plum, and his energy requirements have dropped now because he's not growing so fast.

knowing toddlers dont eat much makes me feel a whole lot better about his eating habits, He does eat plenty of fruit and veg when he does eat. thanks

how much milk are you giving him a day?

We're having a similar time with DS, I've cut out all naughty foods (biscuits cakes and crisps) and am just trying to ensure his snacks are healthy as he won't eat at mealtimes.

that's the approach i take. if they're eating well then they can also have the odd biscuit etc. if they're not eating much then every mouthful has to be a good one!

Our dd is like this but will laways eat fruit or yogurt, she does eat when hungry.
