Mini cupcakes - where from?

It's soon to be dd's birthday party and I want to do cupcakes rather than have the hassle of a cutting cake. I love Konditor & Cook's magic cakes but they are stupidly expensive at £2.95 each. The cheapest mini cupcakes that I've been able to find (admittedly have not looked too hard) are Hummingbird Bakery at 0.95p a pop. Looking at needing 60-70 cakes (some adults, me included, will need more than one) - anyone able to recommend anywhere cheaper?

Get a pampered Chef delux mini muffin tray and make your own. Almost guaranteed to be nicer than any you can buy...

Please please bake your own, it's soooo easy and I promise you, so much cheaper.

I will find the MN cupcake thread for inspiration.

I just bought a mini fairy cake tin and make them myself.

ladies, ladies, you are very sweet but noooooooooo! I have the most el hectico week leading up to said b'day party, including mum arriving from Australia, 20-week scan, wedding in France etc etc ... really cannot be making mounds of cakes, although will make sandwiches.

Besides, my 'thing' is to always do everything totally natural and down to earth and simple and then have just one show-offy element to day - eg wedding was low key on beach, reception was a barbecue, we all wore flip flops, whole thing cost less than £6k ... but had a butterfly release. I always have just one "J Lo" moment in what is otherwise a very simple day. On this occasion, the cakes are it!!

Any other suggestions?

What about a packs of 12 ckaes from the likes of asda or tesco, iff you are feeling adverturous add your own decorations.

Still would work our cheaper to have two big cakes, one for cutting and a plainer cheaper one pree cut and wrapped if for taking home.

I think waitrose do something like you mean but if you are going to be a lazy arse, then you have to pay sadly

I would say the cup cakes are more hassle than its worth.

rteally think that one big cake will make more of the entrance and will be easier and cheaper.....
however maybe the surprise coud be that there isn;t one
60-70 cakes, hwo big is the aprty, how old is the child...

Have you tried www.caketoppers.co.uk - they do nice cakes, with photos or messages on them and are less expensive than the admittedly lovely Konditor and Cook.

Or another really good company is Villa Dolce www.villadolce.co.uk .... a friend of mine had some for her daughter's birthday party and they were great. Failing that you could always make your own a couple of weeks before, freeze them and then defrost and ice them before the party? :)
