is milk more important than solids at 6.5 months?

my ds is enormous but only has a small appetite. he can't seem to manage milk and solids even if there is a 2 hour gap. this morning he took 5oz but won't have any b/fast even an hour later. at 11am he'll take 4 oz and maybe 4 cubes of solids
at 2.30 he'll have 2oz and if i give him 4 cubes at 4.30 then he won't want his bottle at 6pm and if i try to give him the bottle at 6.30 he's too tired. have tried bottle at 5.30 and solids at 6.15 but he still doesn't take much. he then has 5oz at 11pm (3 scoops,5 oz water)
what am i doing wrong? he wakes for the last feed and will often wake in the night but i don't feed him.
so, should i concentrate on the milk and not worry so much about the solids?

I don't think you have a real problem. If your son is 'enormous' then he's certainly getting enough calories . Not so long ago solids weren't introduced until well after six months. Does he enjoy his food? If so I'd give him a meal when he most enjoys it. I'm sure he will eat more/show more preferences as he grows.

about 3 weeks ago he was having 2 large meals a day but now he really only likes his lunch but it is a struggle to get him interested in eating. he's on the 91st centile and has been since 8 weeks so i guess he's just efficient with his calories. i just wish he enjoyed it more. he suffers from constipation so i'm always worried i'm clogging him up........

it may be his body needs more fluids try more water at meal times when you give solids rather than milk Although milk is a whole food if he is constipated I would say try more water and see what happens sorry fo rteh ramble have to o and feed dd now

Issywoo, if he was eating well a couple of weeks ago I imagine this might just be a phase. If he's 6.5 months - could he be teething. I only ask because I remember my sister telling me that both her children (and my dd has done the same) went off solids completely when they were teething...

i think he is teething but miriam stoppard says this does not affect their feeding!he's having no more than 20oz per day and is just getting the hang of water in a cup. people think i'm joking when i say he doesn't eat much becasue he's so huge. his sister ate loads and was also huge - oh, and she slept well. no, i know i mustn't compare them..........
