Exciting new veg box, determined to use everything but I don't really know what to do with a pointed cabbage!

Chop it up and stir fry it with ginger and garlic and chili

I love cabbage sauted/steam fried with garlic & butter & lots of black pepper. Also with ginger, caraway seeds, are nice too.

Coleslaw?

IHeartKingThistle · 09/05/2019 12:57

Those sound lovely!

Give it to me. I'll eat it. Boiled on it's own. Mmm.

IHaveBrilloHair · 09/05/2019 13:04

I like it in this, instead of the fennel which Dd is not keen in

This is a great book for cooking seasonal veggies:

Digby Law's Vegetable Cookbook https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/1869710924/ref=cmswwrcppapiii_5xI1CbAP24FNN

Also my veggie box company has Pinterest recipe pages which has some fab ideas.

It's not my company. It's the folk who deliver my veg box.

Slice in half lengthwise, scatter with knobs of butter, dab of olive oil, salt, pepper, roast until slightly charred, turn over and repeat on other side until tender. Sometimes I do this on the hob in an iron pan, pressing with a pot lid to get good colour on the bottom, or if they're small you can grill them. If they're getting brown but still not tender you can add a small splash of water.

thefirstmrs I do that too, char on all sides, and then grate parmesan cheese all over the charred side and serve with romesco sauce.

This! It’s so cheap, quick and tasty. One of my favourite meals!

I know these are lovely recipes and as I am low-carving I am eating buttered cabbage several times a week but...have you never had cabbage with your Sunday Roast dinner?

Chop it and boil in salted water til just turning soft.
Drain in a colander and chop it again. Add some pepper and serve with roast of your choice, (nut roast here) roast potatoes and parsnips, carrots, celeriac and potato mash, peas, either mushy or frozen, horseradish sauce or mint sauce, Yorkshire puddings and lashing of gravy, made with the stock from potatoes, carrots and your lovely pointed cabbage.

My mother used to give me a cup of cabbage water to drink every time she cooked it, good for your skin apparently!

Oh and do enjoy, I am off to sow some pointed cabbage seeds!

IamEarthymama · 12/05/2019 20:10

I am low-carbing though autocorrect doesn't believe me!

thefirstmrsdewinter · 12/05/2019 20:20

Xiao wow that sounds amazing, I think that may be how it was served the first time I had it in a restaurant. I reckon something like a salsa verde or anything with anchovy would also be good.
I'd like to try it on the barbeque as well. I love the charred bits with the soft and buttery bits - so good.

Fazackerley · 12/05/2019 20:27

Slice it thinly then fry in olive oil, butter with garlic, add some sliced cooked chicken and serve with a massive blob of mayo. My fave lunch.

IHeartKingThistle · 12/05/2019 23:41

Well... I put half of it in coleslaw today. DH loves coleslaw, I'm a bit meh about it and I had never made it before... now I love coleslaw!

Going to try one of the other recipes on Tues if it's still OK by then, but no idea which one; they all sound amazing!

We do have cabbage with Sunday lunch but usually a dark cabbage - never really used the white ones! Thanks for all the suggestions!
