And I dont include friday and saturday evening...In my case, I never buy ready meals so if at evening I feel to tired and dont feel like cooking, I'll go for the simpliest dish..pasta and cheese or something else..I'll never get a take away.

What about you ?

oliveoil - sainsburys ready meals state on the box 'this chicken is either from Thailand or Argentina' No thanks!

blahblahblahniks · 18/07/2007 20:13

I've just gone vegan. I'd probably starve if I couldn't cook. Still might come to think of it

Furball · 18/07/2007 20:13

mean't Take away meal boxes, like Chinese, Indian etc

meandmyflyingmachine · 18/07/2007 20:16

Breadmaker is not a faff. It is FAB! Genuinely just chuck in the stuff and off it goes. I LOVE mine

Beenleigh · 18/07/2007 20:56

I do

Don't make bread though, very impressed with those who do.

Greensleeves · 18/07/2007 20:59

We've just chucked our breadmaker, it's easier to do it in the oven and the bread's nicer too (and doesn't have a big hole in it!)

This, admittedly, is not a good thread for the hungry.

Got the marmitey toast thing going on in my head now, and wishing with all my power I had home-made bread.

Do any of you live near me? Lend us a loaf?

Mercy · 18/07/2007 21:06

Not me

We have a ready-meal or a take-away approx 3/4 times a month. Well actually the take-away is a delivery.

(moondog - I have just been given some very nice hand-knitted slippers from a grandma in Van)

Me, in fact I sometimes cook breakfast for everyone too with various different requests being catered for in the morning, but my house is a PIT. I also cook twice in teh evening - once for the kids and once for the adults as my dh isn't home in time to eat with sprogs. I choose cooking over hoovering any day.

skibump · 18/07/2007 21:10

Yes, pretty much everything is cooked from scratch - and ds loves to help too

Balls · 18/07/2007 21:11

Re: bread machine - I use it for kneading the dough as it saves time and does a better job and then I shape and bake it myself. I draw the line at making my own pasta though - took the machine to the charity shop when we moved house.

Roskva · 18/07/2007 21:12

Me, most days. I had lunch out today, but still cooked for dd - she's lactose intolerant so eating out can br tricky for her.

Balls · 18/07/2007 21:14

God I'm talking to much as usual. My tiddler helped me make crumble this am. Weighing, pouring, stirring, measuring - all fab pre-school skills. All my kids adore cooking and on occasion have prepared things which leave we weeping (eg pasta cooked in tinned tomatoes!), but at least they are trying and are becoming knowledgable about nutrition.

jaynehater · 18/07/2007 21:17

My two (7 and 5) made their own omelettes this lunchtime, under paranoid supervision.

Then dd2 pipes up 'Shouldn't we have theasoned this?'

Ponce.

francagoestohollywood · 18/07/2007 21:17

we cook from scratch almost everyday. Apart from when we give in to dr oetken pizzas...

wannaBe · 18/07/2007 21:22

I cook mostly from scratch. ready meals do not enter my fridge so I was horrified when I was having my kitchen refitted and I had to buy ... ready-made mashed potato .

We do have the occasional take-away though and I buy frozen chips as I couldn't be arsed to clean my deep fat frier so I chucked it.

I do make my own bread though only a couple of times a week, I do the dough cycle in the bread maker though and then turn out into a bread tin and make in the oven as it comes out a better shape. Also make my own pizza and I have a pasta machine but only make my own pasta when I have the time.

collision · 18/07/2007 21:40

My lovely husband makes all the bread, pasta, biscuits and cakes and icecream in our house.

(We currently have morello cherry icecream.)

We cook from scratch every night but that is because he is a chef and it is his passion!!

If it was down to me we would eat more ready bought stuff but only things like pesto and a few packet sauce thingies.

We havent had a takeaway in 6 months and rarely eat out.

But why would we eat out when DH is a Roux Brothers/Carluccio trained chef !!!!

jaynehater · 18/07/2007 21:41

collision.

People like you exist to taunt me.

collision · 18/07/2007 21:42

As I posted it I thought I wouldnt be popular!!

jaynehater · 18/07/2007 21:45

DH is a

'if we stick some oregano in it, that'll make it haute cuisine'

trained 'chef'

Bibis · 18/07/2007 21:47

Haven't read all the posts but I make bread for their sandwich lunches everyday and 6 out of 7 days they have a from scratch supper/tea. I include using my own homemade stock and where I can i use home grown produce.

Next year I plan to have my own chickens as well

collision · 18/07/2007 21:52

LOL Jayne....send him to my DH for a cookery course!!
