Ideas for healthy savoury snacks?

Hi, I'm trying to lose half a stone before the summer. I eat healthily and rarely go for sweet treats when I'm hungry. Instead, I reach for the peanut butter, sunflower seeds (healthy, I know, but I eat far too much of that) or cheese - all very high in calories.

What can I eat that scratches thay salty itch but it's not fatty?

Any ideas?

I wish I knew! I get smooth peanut butter because you can spread it thinner....

Hummus or salsa or both with celery is my current fave, but any veggies dipped in is good. Try mangetout/baby corn.

Whole almonds -6 or 7 of those satisfies me with a cup of tea.
Aldi do chick pea puffs (nicer and cheaper than hippeas) for under 100 cals.
Aldi also do pea snacks in sweet chilli or salt & vinegar too.
Oat cakes, I’m happy to have a couple of those dry.
I am partial to a stick of celery with almond butter THINLY spread on and I do weigh the nut butter because it is calorific but very satisfying.

Salted celery (if it’s salt itself you want)

Crunchy veg sticks (the crunch is quite satisfying in a crisps kinda way)

Boiled egg (the protein fills you, but it’s quite low cal)

If you like salt and vinegar, Sainsbury's do packs of little rice and corn cakes with salt and vinegar flavouring, and the flavouring is really full-on. Only about 80 calls a bag. They're delicious, and I find they scratch that pre-menstrual salt-craving itch very nicely.

People at work have been passing around dried salted peas recently and claiming they’re healthy. They taste almost nutty and delicious! I think they’re from holland and Barrett

Roasted chickpeas - you can flavour them with paprika, salt & pepper...whatever you want really

Miso baked aubergine chunks - really hits the salty craving

Get some tortilla wraps and spray them with a little oil and whatever flavourings you like, chop into pieces and roast for your own "healthier" crisps - you can also do this with pitta bread

Cottage cheese or Quark are quite salty, packed with protein and lower in fat/calories

Mini Babybel Light - less than 50cals each

Greek yoghurt or Skyr - if you get the 0% fat stuff it's fairly low in calories but high in protein

Cooked prawns / crab sticks

There are some great ideas here, thanks!

Bag of mangetout or even better, sugar snap peas. Dip in salt.

FawnDrench · 15/04/2019 20:31

A few olives
Silverskin onions
Crunchy veg sticks with a dash of soy sauce

kateandme · 16/04/2019 07:30

roasted chickpeas
vegetable crsips
roasted sweet potato wedges
make you own tortilla chips with wraps in the oven salted.

Aquiver · 16/04/2019 08:46

Similar to @Stravapalava 's suggestion - edamame beans with (celery) salt sprinkled over perhaps?

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 16/04/2019 18:53

Came on to say edamame but others got there first. You can buy them frozen in their pods and sprinkle with salt and chilli flakes.

A bit of cheese with oatcakes and a Garners pickled onion or three.

Tsatziki with carrot sticks

Mango salsa - ideally with a few tortilla chips!

PorridgeIsYummy · 17/04/2019 07:36

Love the last few ideas! Veg dipped in soy sauce might do the trick. Or mange tout dipped in a tiny bit of salt. In my case, saltiness is definitely what I crave.

I once read that cornichons or guerkin made your sweet cravings disappear. I never tried as I'm not crazy about sweet stuff, but it may help some of you!
